Are you planning on attending, or exhibiting at the NAMM 2007 Show this January (Anaheim)?[/b]

If you are going, what are your goals/objectives?
Anything in particular you're hoping to see or do?

Or, if you're exhibiting, what and where?

I will be there Thurs - Sun.

Would be happy to meet any of our forums members while I'm there. If you'd like to meet up to say hello, please let me know.

Either way, please post your thoughts and pictures when you get back.

Also see this post...

I'll certainly be there, hanging out in the Kawai booth.

I might even buy you lunch or something, Frank. I know a really great Mexican place that's away from the crowds a bit . . .

Hi Frank,

I'll be there once again representing the Steigerman line of pianos, booth #403 in the main piano room, where we will officially unveil our new "Premium" line of pianos.

Maybe a group of us can again have dinner this year, at a different restaurant this time...

See ya there.

Hi Dino,

I'll certainly stop by.
Is the Piano Traveler's Group having their get together again?

And yes, I'd be interested in getting a group together, but definitely at a different restaurant:-)

I'm hoping I can go. (I'm working at a local piano store as a floor tuner, and I talked to someone there and she said she'd get me a badge.)
It will be my first time.

Also, I'm hoping to make it to the CA State PTG conference in the Bay Area this coming year, and am considering my options for the PTG national in '07. (I hope to be able to afford it, now that I have a semi-respectable income, compared to unemployment, that is.)

I would go if there was a serious business opportunity for me. I am a certified piano technician, and I have a plan for marketing pianos that I would like to get some backing on.

Randy,

I have seen this term "Certified Piano Technician" a few times, but don't understand it. Can you tell me what organization or entity certifies piano technicians?

Thanks for any information you can give.

Actually, I am a registered piano technician with the PTG. The general public seems more receptive to the term "certified" and I have made it the title of my business, "A Certified Piano Technician".

There may be a semantics argument regarding the correct use of the term, since there is no actual state certification of piano tuners.

I beg your forgiveness.

Hi Frank,

I'll be there from Wednesday noon through Monday morning. I'll be wandering between our underwriter's booths doing personal appearances, signings, and other general schmoozing \:\)

Let's set up a time to meet and have a drink since we missed each other when I was in NY. I'm at the Hilton the whole time. Let me know so I can get it scheduled before too late and my week totally fills up.

It'll be fun!

You're on.
I'm there Thurs/Fri/Sat night, so whatever works.

I'm at the Anaheim Marriott Suites (up the street, not the one next to the Convention Center).

A question about NAMM: my college-age son (who is a drummer) is dying to go for a day. Are tickets EVER made available to the public for sale? (Someone at a local music store told my son that NAMM was going to let the public in on one of the days, but I don't believe it.)

No, it will never happen. It gets voted down every year.
They do it at the Big show in Germany and it is a disaster. Stealing, and spilled soda and beer are the worse culprits, followed closly by putting cans and Big Gulp cups full of melting ice on pianos.

I was planning to go. But after careful thought I have decided not to go this year.

Being a relatively lowly person in the piano retailing hierarchy I look at NAMM as a kind of homecoming where I can greet and thank all of my dealers and manufacturers under one roof at one time.

You guys/gals are the best. I couldn't have picked a better industry to be in -- in whatever capacity.

I'll be in the area Thursday/Friday/Saturday (Los Angeles Society of Pathologists meets Saturday); if there's a general PianoWorld party (as there has been in previous years) please post info.

I will be there for the entire show, headquarted at the SMC display. I look forward to meeting you "in the flesh" after all these years. I am afraid I will miss the National Piano Travelers Association meeting on Wednesday night (even though I am past president and I recall encouraging you to attend a couple years ago), as we have a corporate function at that time.

Hi. Looks (for now, at least) like I will be going. I have my badge, courtesy of the store I tune on the floor for.

Tentatively, I will be there Thursday (although I may not be there when it first opens in the morning - that remains to be seen) most of the day, Friday most of the day (although I may duck out in the mid to late afternoon), and Saturday most of the day (but I may have to leave before closing time to catch a bus home).
(I haven't made reservations yet cause I haven't been 100% sure I will be there, but I should be able to get a room at a discount motel chain a few miles west on Katella Ave. Last I checked, they had some available.)

It will be my first time there. I'm mainly interested in seeing the various pianos and keyboards. Anyone have any recommendations on what I should look for? I would especially be interested in seeing pianos that I usually don't get the opportunity to see very often or at all.

Another thing - is there anything wrong with somehow writing or sticky-ing my forum username on my badge?

88Key_PianoPlayer,

The show is huge (and crowded).
While it can be fun to wander around checking everything out, it can also be overwhelming.

I find it's best to grab a program (there will be big stacks of them outside the entrances) and make a list of everyone I want to visit, making a notation of the booth (or room) number and floor.

Visit these first, then wander around.

If it's quiet in the booth you're visiting (rare) the people staffing it will be able to chat, if they're busy I usually leave them alone as I'm not placing any orders for pianos.

As to your badge, I usually write "Home of the World Famous Piano Forums" on mine under the Piano World name. Haven't gotten in trouble for it yet. But... you might be safer to just attach something under your badge.

I hope you make it to the show, it's a great experience and a lot of fun. I'll be wearing my Pano Forums badge under my NAMM badge, keep your eyes open for a pudgy grey haired guy who looks like Richard Dreyfuss :-)

See the proof here ... http://www.pianoworld.com/ubb/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?/topic/19/221/4.html#000098

That's Richard on the left, me on the right.

As proof that NAMM is almost here, I humbly submit the following MP3 file for all to enjoy!

http://www.pianoworld.com/Uploads/files/NAMMTuning.mp3

(If you set your music player on repeat, then turn up the volume nice and loud, you will get a sense of being there!)

Hi all.

The Rubenstein piano is here (in 210B with the Steingraebers and Sauters). The 138cm Steingraeber is a nice piano. Also, I so far like the 130 (or 132 - can't remember right this second) cm Bohemia upright. And, the Fazioli F308 is nice, too.

Anyone know if Larry Fine, Franz Mohr (I guess not, cause Steinway's not exhibiting), Del Fandrich are at NAMM this year? I did see Randy Potter at the Charles Walter booth (along with Mr & Mrs Walter).
