Oh...that. Dang, Ryan, what a mess!!!! Oh, well, that old floor needed replacing anyway didn't it? Did it do any damage to the underlayment, or do you have a slab?

Well here's what happened... Luckily the rental place down the road was still open and I got in just in time to rent an extractor and a big fan. I got up as much of the water as I could and started running the fan. By the next day it STILL wasn't dry (I should've known the extractor wouldn't be able to get enough of the water out.)After doing a little online reading, I decided I better not wait any longer so I pulled EVERYTHING out of the walk in closet and the bedroom (How did I get so much stuff??) and after removing the molding pulled up the carpet from the bedroom, closet, and hallway, and hung it out to dry in the back yard! (the kids' swing set was handy for this!) After dumping the yucky pad, I rented another big fan and within pretty short order was able to get the sub floor dried out. Then I called a handyman buddy of mine who recommended I call his contractor buddy, who knew a good carpet installer.(don't you love having connections?) He came out earlier today and in a couple of hours had new padding down, and had the carpet reinstalled. The whole fiasco ended up costing me about 385 bucks! Not too shabby. I'm having the carpets professionally steam cleaned on Tuesday while everything is still out of the room. So are the days of our lives... Heck! It could've been a LOT worse: OR EVEN WORSE!!!

Well, I'm glad it wasn't too catastrophic, Ryan. Still a huge pain in the arse, though.

Ryan, a customer of mine who deals with this sort of thing said that if water gets into the drywall, it will turn into mold inside of the walls. She said the bottom 12" or so, should be removed and replaced. I haven't checked to see if this is fact but, it certainly makes sense. Actually, I just did look it up and this is what I found out at least on this only page that I opened up... http://www.ehow.com/how_2056875_eliminate-mold-from-drywall.htmlNote Number 5.. Step 5. Cut out any drywall affected by mold using a utility knife. Moldy drywall cannot be cleaned. Instead, it must be completely removed and disposed of. Also this: Tips & Warnings * Assume the presence of mold in any drywall that is wet for more than 24 hours. * Use plastic sheeting to isolate areas where mold is being removed if the home remains occupied during removal. Removing mold can release more spores into the air, which can be harmful if inhaled. * Hire a trained professional to clean up extensive mold damage. Mold should be taken seriously.

Thanks for the head-up, Gerry. I'll keep a very close eye on it - The walls did not hardly get wet and were dry within 24 hours - the big drying fans worked pretty well, especially considering how hot and dry it has been here.
My brother had mold damage once - it was awful!! Nasty, toxic stuff.

How deep was the water on the floor? I'm guessing it was nothing like a real flood, so hopefully your wallboard is fine.

You're welcome Ryan. Hope things stay dry for you over there. I'd give you a hand but, I think you're already in over your head!

The carpets got steam cleaned today! We went with the big guns: It's the way to go! I'm almost glad it happened! These carpets haven't been this clean in over a decade! (No Jerry, don't even think about sneaking over and flooding the rest of the house, just so I can get the rest of the carpets spic and span!)

Wow, that's quite a rig! I'll bet it did a good job. How is the wall board holding up? Any signs of trouble?

Can you imagine showing up at a customer's home dressed in a pair of coveralls, a turned up billed cap, and a pair of clodhoppers like that!!!! I can see shotguns being leveled..fingers on trigger...

Uh huh... Yipes! I've seen tuners dress practically like that and seem to think it's OK to show up looking like a street worker or something worse. No wonder some of the rest of us get a bad rap! People used to say to me because I always wear dress clothes to work "gee, I expected you to show up with blue jeans that had holes in them! The last person always did so I figured that was normal for piano tuners because you couldn't afford to dress properly!" Nice huh???

Yeah, it kind of makes you stop and think for a minute for sure.
I can't count the amount of times people think they can say whatever they want and have no manners at all like; "you can really make a living at this?"
