Hi! My name is Linda. I am 48 and am so thankful to God that I got my hands on a keyboard one month ago and decided to learn the piano. I took lessons 30 years ago. Things happened. The piano was gone. And I have had a hole in my life ever since. I didn't even realize what joy and peace left with the piano. Maybe I can get off of my anti-depressants now! LOL Anyway, I got a cheapie piano and got it tuned and am teaching myself to play. I am using the 'Master Theory' books and 'Bastien, Piano for Adults' to learn all the basics. And I am playing every song in our Church hymnal. I practice at least 2 hours a day. I am so glad I found this forum. I know it is going to help me alot. I wish I could have 30 years back.

Hi HappyApple. Nice that you've rediscovered the piano. Do you recall much from your early lessons? My girlfriend has not played piano in 40 years, yet she still knows some scales and chords. Once in a while, she'll sit down at the bench with me and we'll play some things. It's amazing what she still recalls.
Two hours of practice is a lot for a beginner. Listen to your hands and don't overdo it at first. I was practicing an hour a day when I first started (at age 52), and my teacher cut me back to a half hour per day. My thumbs stopped hurting after that. Now I've increased my practice time with no adverse effects. It just took some time to get my hands in shape.

Music, and for the musicians here at PW and in my jam group, sure lifted my spirits - I'm so glad you've rediscovered your piano. You've come to the right place!

Welcome! It's wonderful that you are returning to the piano. I'm also rather new here, and also in Bastien for Adults (in the middle of the second book, Ministrel's song). However, I assume you will be progressing much faster then me since I'm starting from scratch as adult.

Hi HappyApple, and welcome to the PWABF!
Sounds like you are well on your way to an experience that will make you feel “young, vibrant, and joyful”! I’ll be 53 in September and I’m having the time of life learning to play the piano! Plus, this is a fantastic place to get lots of good advice and tips!
Take care!
Rick

Yes, welcome, you're like me. I'm 48 and just returned to the piano after many years.
I've noticed learning is a bit harder and memorizing stuff takes more work....but the joys of accomplishing a piece matches no other.
