Any suggestions for a drum machine?

I'm looking for something to use with my DP (Yamaha P-80).
Something I can take when I play a solo gig, to add some rhythm.

Not looking for one that requires hours of programming.

Anyone have experience with these, and suggestions for make/model?

Not sure how you feel about using software on a laptop, but since I think pretty much all drum machines sound cheesy, I'll recommend it anyway. Have a look at Jamstix:

http://www.rayzoon.com/jamstix2.html

Looking at the GUI it may look daunting, and it can be if you want to control every aspect. Furtunately, it can be used from totally automatically to programing every hit (which IMO defeats the purpose of the software). On automatic, it can be set to react to your playing, such as playing more aggressively the louder you play the piano. It comes with many drummer styles, modeled after real life drummers. It is kind of hard to explain in words, but it really is an amazing piece of software and there's a demo version available. It's made for those of us who can't or don't want to program realistic sounding drum tracks.

You will, of course, need to spend some time to learn how it works, but it really does sound really good and "human".

Thanks Rented,

I'm a little hesitant to use a laptop based solution, because that would mean needing to haul my laptop with me.

Plus the interfaces usually require more of your attention than something with buttons.

I will check it out however because it may be something I'd use for recording purposes.

This one may be worth looking at:

The foot switch control would be useful in a live situation
