As lessons start up again after a summer break in my teacher's studio, I picked up the July/August issue of Clavier Companion magazine. In an section on Adult Piano Study, the editor introduces two short articles with a mention of the ABF at Piano World. Unfortunately, the articles are only in the print edition of the magazine, but they do have a website:
Clavier Companion

Here's what the section editor, Michelle Conda, had to say:
Quote:
To see just how serious adults are about piano, visit the online Piano World Forums. The Adult Beginners section is one of the most popular there with over 160,000 posts. Included in the threads are recital preparation (yes, they are giving onine recitals), a Liszt Devotee Club, and a Rachmaninoff Study Group. There are over 245 pages listing all the threads in the Adult Beginner category. How can you say these adults are "not serious" about their piano studies?

and a footnote:
Quote:
Two threads that scared me on Piano Forum website were "My Piano Lessons are Getting in a Rut" and "Telling your Teacher you are Changing Teachers.

No mention of "Just for those totally devoted to Chopin", but the ABF has been noticed!

Thanks clcs, always glad to see publicity that may bring more members into the fold :-)

You can see how fast things change, the ABF is over 171,000 posts now.
And overall, we are 1.2 million!

The members of the ABF do a great job of encouraging each other, and making new members feel welcome. All your efforts, support, and participation are much appreciated.

That is so cool! wow We've hit the big time! I'm sure it was just an unintentional oversight that she didn't mention the Einaudi thread... grin

...er... does this mean we have to stop being goofy? [Monica squelches impulse to resurrect the "1" thread.] crazy

Way to go, ABF!!!! And well-deserved. If more adult students had this kind of support and encouragement, more of them would hang in there.

YES!

LOL Monica - I looked for the 1 thread not long ago, and it was "way" back there! I guess I was remiss in not giving it a bump laugh

Gee, I hope being famous doesn't change us too much - maybe we should all join crossed hands in a circle and vow to never give up silliness just because we're serious!

MOYD - just how is that pronounced? laugh

Actually anyone being interested in the adult piano student can find years of background information online at ClavierCompanion.com from the regular columns written in the magazine, text is available, however, photos are not online.

I recommend adult students might be interested in subscribing to this magazine as it comes from the pedagogy influence of teaching music. Go online and see the variety of subjects over the years. Also check out the "art gallery" of past magazine covers the art is interesting and usually keyboard specific.

ClavierCompanion is a product of combining two very popular music teaching magazines, "Keyboard Companion" and Clavier" in the past year. It is published by Frances Clark Center for Keyboard Pedagogy.

I had read the article about PWF, too, and thought that was quite an accomplishment to be cited in a professional music teaching magazine. Congratulations!

I think a big part of the reason the ABF got noticed is the same reason most of us are here: the chance to learn and share our experiences with a (mostly) friendly and supportive audience.

We have our "serious" side with the recitals, the study groups, etc., but we also have our "fun" side with the 1 thread, the pictures of spring/summer/etc thread and so on.

A nice balance, I think and well deserving of some notice.
