I am learning to play guitar and piano. I learn guitar as fingerstyle. So, when I have started my piano classes, I realized that my nails are very long for playing piano. As you know, it is neccesary for playing guitar as fingerstyle. Do anybody play guitar and piano? How do you solve this problem? Thanks.

When you play the piano, try not to curve your fingers so much.
If you play with flat fingers, your nails won't touch the keys.

I used to play mostly guitar and a little piano, now it's the other way around. I found that rather than shape my nails on my right hand if I just left them a little longer than usual I still had enough to play the guitar and not so much that the nails struck the keys and made that irritating clacking sound. Of course, the left hand always had shorter nails so that I could properly press the strings. Left hand, no white showing under the nails, right hand a little white (about 1/8").
Hope this helps.

I played guitar for like 2 months while my sister was here, and she had a guitar. So I asked her if I could use it for a month or 2, and she said yes- because she had a lot going on, school- tennis- work- 3 AP classes. So I played modern songs, nothing hard [because I was new to holding down the strings, and it hurt my fingers after a while ]- so after the 3rd week, i got a finger callus. It went on for 5 more weeks, until my sister went away for a few months to visit home [ in the Philippines ] with my dad, so she took her guitar with her. Upon leaving, my dad bought me the 61-key Casio light-up keyboard! When I tried to switch, it was rather... awkward for my fingers. I would suggest to you that you get a Finger Pick, such as this one: http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Alaska-Pik-Finger-Pick?sku=110630It's inexpensive, effective, and should help with your current issue! :] When you play the piano, try not to curve your fingers so much.

Mel Playing with flat fingers doesn't work for much songs... I doubt that it'll help you, it might even make you worse. You can't play songs fluidly if your fingers are flat, and it's bad fingering technique.

I am not sure if my guitar teacher let me to use this finger pick. It seems a good idea. Thanks.
