I'm considering buying a used baby grand but there are several scratches on the black high gloss finish. Any suggestions on how or if scratches can be repaired?

Black polyester finishes can only be fixed by a professional as far as I know, and it won't be cheap...

I have no idea of the cost as I didn't have to pay it, but when one of my pianos was moved and the movers themselves scratched the high gloss finish, I thought forget it give me a new piano there's no way you're going to be able to fix this so I can't tell you scratched it. I was wrong. They came and fixed it and you couldn't tell, I was amazed.

If you can lightly drag the back of a finger nail across the scratch and cannot feel the indentation, then it likely can be polished out using plastic polish found at most car/motorcycle parts store. It is used for face shields and plastic motorcycle/boat windshields.

If you can feel the indentation, then it must be taken care of by a finish professional. Get a recommendation for cabinet repair from a couple of piano retailers new you. Every shop has to have at least one cabinet guy to service their new and used instruments. They charge by the hour.
