Let me rephrase that. I KNOW I found my piano! It's a Ferd. Hoffstein UP 118M.

Story: I went to my local dealer today to search for an upright. After trying 2nd hands and other cheap new pianos, which I all rejected because they were either too low (bumped my knee up to the keys), too sharp tone-wise or too sloppy action-wise, the dealer showed me this one. He first didn't show me it because it was slightly over budget, but after hearing me explain with every piano why I didn't like it he kinda had to. It's got a very romantic and soulfull tone. Very deep but still bright enough for lighter work. The action is incredible. I'm used to my Rippen at my parents house, and this one is very similar only more precise and accurate.

So we talked it over and the dealer suggested my best bet was to rent it for 50 euros a month. Then when the year is over I can pay the remainder of the price of the piano and then it'll be mine!

I'm so happy right now. I thought the searchin was gonna take ages, but it didn't. Weird to think my piano was only a 20 minute bike ride away.

I was just going to say.

I'd love to see some pics, this is a make I've never heard of. It takes some good shopping to find these gems sometimes.

It's gonna be roughly 2 weeks till delivery. I've been looking on google for pics of it, but I can't find them either. I'll definitely post some when she's here. The inside looks similar to an older U1, only less spacious.

congrats and best of luck!@!!

do you happen to have a photo of the Rippen at your parent's house, to compliment the photo of your new piano? We don't have Rippen's in the U.S.

Very handsome, Muusers, especially the shot down the keyboard. How does it play and sound?

Well I've been playing on that piano for 13 years now, so I think it plays excellent:P But it's got a very gentle touch and pretty good dynamic range for an old piano. Talking 35-40 years old on that Rippen. A very gentle tone, not harsh or sharp but very well defined nonetheless. The action could be better, but then again, it's not the most expensive piano to start with.

Rippen used Schwander actions, as I recall, which were quite good. A little regulation could make it play very well.

smile Just wanted to say congratulations on finding your new piano! Did you have to look at many before you found it?

And, loved the pics of your Rippen... especially down the keyboard with the plant at the end, nice shot!

I went through about 12 or 13 piano's before I tried the Hoffstein. So not too many, took me some 3 hours.
