I am organizing an e-cital on Pianists' Corner and Adult Beginners' Forum, featuring works by obscure composers, to be held August 20, 2010. We already have several participants from PC, but would like to offer some suggestions to the ABF members so that all may participate.

Who better to ask for suggestions than the fine teachers here. Can you recommend any early to late beginner pieces by under-appreciated composers? Any links to recordings or scores would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

There are several collections of early level pieces by Alexandre Tansman that are very charming.

Also look into Alexina Louie's collection "Star Light, Star Bright." It has some really wonderful pieces in it, including this:

I'm not sure if these are obscure enough, but they're two of my favorites. One is a Level 2 NYSSMA piece - Aeolian Harp by W. Gillock. The other is Tokyo Twilight by Melody Bober - a Level 3 piece. Both are nice dreamy selections.
I also like The Green Dragon - Level 2.

Another good one is Egyptian Rhapsody by N. Faber, which is longer, and a Level 4.

Hope this helped.

Joan

Album for the Young, by Lowell Liebermann. There was an entire article dedicated to it in Clavier magazine. I have not seen an increase in its performance at festivals or exams.

Thank you, Edwardian and AZNpiano. I'll post these on the ABF for consideration. smile
