Thanks for the fine idea and for organizing this! I'd like to play:

Voříšek - Fantasy, opus 12 (a fairly short work in two movements)

I'll play something by Joseph Achron... maybe one of the Op. 56 pieces. I put up a video earlier this year of his "Dream" Op 56 No. 1, and I'm sure with another year's practice I'll be able to play it without messing up the canon at the end! Or maybe I'll play something else by him.

Hello all,

Thanks for your interest. I've learned so much already, and we haven't even had the pleasure of listening to the music yet! Here's the update:

Participants

-Frycek: Adieu by Carl Filtsch

Euan Morrison: Prelude #tbd by Cesar Cui

beet 31425: Prelude and Fugue #tbd by Trygve Madsen

akonow: Scharwenka tbd

gerg: tbd

heidiv: tbd

Schubertian: tbd

epf: Under the Palms Waltz by Irene Audain

currawong: tbd

RachFan: tbd

SlatterFan: Fantasy Op. 12 by Vorisek

pianojerome: Joseph Achron

--------------------------

SlatterFan - My apologies to you and the composer. I can't figure out how to do the doohickeys over the "ris"

pianojerome - Perfection is not necessary! While we all strive to achieve a certain level, we're all human. I'm sure we'll enjoy it.

Thanks again to all. Comments welcomed.

Heidiv - I am still uncertain - but recently I have been led by my spirit guides to look into the considerable amount of music that has been produced by mediums and channelers in that 100 years or so - the most well known, I think, is Rosemary Brown - I have no idea how to get my hands on these scores however - maybe you get them through
'automatic writing'

I'm not sure if this is not too *outre* for this recital - I'm getting bored listening to Dvorak's piano music -

Did Rosemary channel any Schumann? - I know He and Clara visited her.

Yes she did - but I am not sure who publishes that -

In the meantime my public library has the sheet music for some ectoplasmic mazurkas of CHopin, which I am eagerly awaiting - never underestimate the resources of your public library!

Or maybe the "Don't Quite Know They're Dead Heroes" E-Cital?

Schubertarian:

I've always approached music with a childlike innocence, a certain naivete. Classical music is, to me at least, a window into the ideal, above or aside from ethics and aside from its original inspiration. I've always viewed it, perhaps incorrectly, as intrinsically pure. Any ethical connotations from one genre or another arise from popular association.

One of the aspects I most appreciate about Frederic Chopin especially concerns his titling convention. To most of his works he gave generic titles without regard to his private inspiration: "Nocturne", "Etude", "Valse". He allowed the listener to form his or her own imagery sans preconceived notions.

Follow-up:

I don't think the music of mediums from the spirits of dead composers is quuuiite what Heidi has in mind here, Schubertarian. I believe she wants the music produced while they were alive. Heidi can confirm this.

This is not to shoot down your idea - you're one of my personal favorites here on PW, in fact - and I'd encourage you to explore it in a different venue.

Yes, my ouija board tells me that we should stick to music composed during the composer's lifetime.

Perhaps we can include postmortem compositions next time, though I can't promise it would be a lively event.

I think that would be wonderful provided we could have an educational aspect to it -- that is, musical decomposition afterwards. Oh, to avoid other obvious puns, I think that it should not be limited to music marked "grave," there should be music marked "animato" or "avec esprit."

It has been given me to know that there is discord here on the Physical. Beings are not yet ripe. Composers- or, perhaps, De-composers - who have passed over onto the Astral will be content to remain silent for the 'Unsung heroes' event. The vibratory conditions are unstable.

Hi Heidi - sign me up for one of the piano sonatas of Hyacinth Jadin (1776-1800) a younger contemporary of Mozart whose life was thrown into turmoil by the French Revolution, the Terror, and then cut short by TB.

I've partially learned the Liapunov transcendental Study "Nuit d'ete" a few times. No guarantees, but I could possibly aim to get it finished. His lesghinka is heard from time to time, but this particular study seems to be very rarely played sadly, although this performance (not mine) is up on youtube:

Hi all-

Several people have asked if they may submit more than one piece. After thinking about it, I have to say, Why not? If we're trying to introduce people to new composers, it makes sense to allow people to contribute whatever they would like. The more music we present, the more we'll all learn.

Well, in that case, I'll add Massenet's "Aragonaise" from the ballet "Le Cid."

In your own transcription? Might be fun.

If you want to sample some Massenet keyboard music (he didn't write much), try the piano concerto. It's totally over-the-top with a lot of busy passage work, but somehow the work is oddly compelling.

Not my transcription. The one I have is very good, however, and faithful to the full score.

Hello everyone,

It seemed time for an update on this thread. Of course, anyone is welcome to add their name to the list. The more, the merrier! To those of you who signed up but haven't chosen a piece yet - have you picked one? As you can see, I've decided to play a piece by Medtner, one of Geoffrey Tozer's favorite composers.

If you're interested in joining the fun, throw your hat in the ring and choose the piece later.

We have a very generous, very talented, very modest member who has offered a site for hosting the e-cital. She/he wishes to remain anonymous for now, but many thanks go to you! 3hearts

I know we're a ways out, but I'm having great fun with my piece. Fast and staccato. Thank you, Heidi, for placing before us this fantastic opportunity to showcase music that we might otherwise never hear! thumb

Anyone else want to talk about their piece?

Anyone care to join us?

The Medtner Canzona Serenata is a marvelous piece; great choice. I'm still looking through stuff to see what I might want to play, but go ahead and add me as a "tbd" participant. There are so many possibilities. And yes, thanks to the mystery host person.

Great wr! I'm glad you'll be participating. Considering the e-cital is 10 months away, that gives us all enough time to peruse our options.

Gerg, I looked up your piece and it does look fun! Can't wait to hear you play it.

I acquired the score for the Medtner and played through slowly a few times just to make sure it's within my abilities. I love the piece too; alas, the real work on my Medtner piece must wait a couple of months until I first finish 2 other projects (but I'm soooo tempted...)
