Engadget just put up a story about the new Zoom Q3

Zoom Q3

It includes a pretty good quality demo of the Q3

I'm still borrowing a Zoom H2 to record my piano. I was leaning towards buying one of my own, but then I heard about the Q3. Now, I'm wondering if I should get one of those, get an H2 (hopefully with a downgraded price), or keep borrowing an H2 and wait until there is Zoom quality sound and HD video in a single device. Anyone have any advice? Anyone thinking along the same lines and know more than I do about this area of technology?

Hmmm... I'm guessing that they'll wait exactly 6 months or a year to bring out a Zoom Q3 with HD, cscl, at which point I'll shell out ANOTHER few hundred bucks.... laugh

The last I heard from Sweetwater is that my Q3 is supposed to ship Sept. 18, but I just saw on the zzounds site that THEY'RE claiming an Oct. 10 date. help Shucks. I've been putting off doing any recording because I keep thinking the Q3 will be here soon. Guess I'd better haul out my Flip and H4 setup again. frown

Thanks Monica.

Can you feed the audio of your Zoom H4 into the Flip? How do you sync the audio and video? Do you like the Flip? Your YouTube videos look and sound nice, so your current system must work pretty decently.

So, I'm thinking I might hold out longer or just go ahead and buy a Zoom H2. I'll get the audio I want and then I can look into other ways to get the video somewhere down the line.

I don't feed the Zoom audio into the Flip; I just record it separately and then import it into Windows MovieMaker and splice it together with the video. I'm not very skilled at getting them lined up exactly, and it's a pain in the butt, so I'm really, really impatient for the Q3 to come along to save me extra step.

If the Q3 is actually going to be released sometime in the next few weeks, my advice would be to shell out the extra $$ and get it rather than the H2. But if the ship date keeps getting kicked back, I dunno. And I also have to confess to being a little worried that all these ship delays indicate some kind of bug with the unit. help

I've been using Audacity to line up the audio tracks for my videos. I export the original audio from the video using ffmpeg from my command line then open both my audio tracks in Audacity. I can then zoom into and find a pretty exact spot where the audio begins in the original track. I find where the audio begins on the other and do some simple math to find out how much silence to add at the beginning or how much to take off the beginning to get the audio to start at the proper time on the other track. I then export the newly lined up audio and use ffmpeg to create the new video using the original video source and the new audio file. Maybe I can put up some kind of tutorial of the steps I take if anyone is interested.

Anthony I am interested as I'm sure others are as well. I have a Zoom h2 (no speakers) which works fantastic and can take decent video with my wifes Cannon camera.

If you do a tutorial, along the lines of *spoon feeding* would be great for this ex dodgeball star!

count me in, too, Anthony... but start a new thread called something like "editing audio plus video" so others will see it.

I just had yet another phone call from Danielle, my dedicated customer agent at Sweetwater (and with whom I am developing a more frequent correspondence than I have with my own sisters!), who tells me that Zoom assures them that the Q3 will "probably" ship by the end of the month and they "hope" to have it delivered to me by then. *sigh*
