Tuning New Pianos

How do you all feel about tuning new pianos? Do you find that you spend less time on them for the first tuning since they go out of tune sooner or do you really sock in a good solid tuning? I'm talking about the first in home tuning.
I find that I enjoy tuning new pianos. It's kind of like getting to shape them at the start of their lives. However, I find educating new piano owners on the need for regular tunings to be rather difficult sometimes. Some folks simply don't want to believe that their piano will need future tunings. It can be a catch 22. If you do a great tuning on a brand new piano, the slippage of the tuning will be more obvious on a few notes. If you do only a rough tuning since it will slip sooner anyway, it can make you look bad too.
I must say that I enjoy tuning a seasoned piano much more. Especially if the last tuner set the pins well.

Depends on the quality of the piano. On lousy tuning pianos that no matter what you do the piano will still sound lousy, I rip through them doing the best job possible on that particular instrument and that's it.
Some dealers go so far as to tell the new piano buyer that their pianos never need tuning or servicing.
Some piano owners do not play the piano themselves and therefore fail to recognize the need or requirement for frequent tunings no matter what we tell them.

I'd rather do a pitch raise on a Winter spinet than fight with lousy feeling, ultra-flex, bright chrome tuning pins found on some new pianos. Just because the piano looks, plays, and sounds nice, it doesn't mean it tunes well. The best tuning piano I had recently was a Petrof. One pull up, nudge it back, and the pin was set. Ahhhhhhh.
