My son has volunteered to play for a master class this on Saturday October 2, 2009 at CalState Long Beach. He will play the Creston Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano. Unfortunately it is a difficult piece and many of the piano students don't want to play this accompaniment

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions how I can find an accompanist?

That's less than a week! I've had experience with this piece and it's no wonder no one wants to take it on. Your best hope is to find someone who is already familiar with it. I'd check out your saxophone contacts and ask who they might have used in the past.

It's standard literature, so any accompanist at a local college or university should be familiar with it. Check with the saxophone professors in your area and see who they use.

Currawong is right, though. It's not easy, and you're probably not going to find anyone who's going to be able to learn in a week. I've played it several times and still have to put in a fair amount of practice when I'm asked to play it.

Has your son contacted Mark Uranker or Althea Waites? They are both adjunct faculty and both do a lot of collaborative work. However they are both very busy and the short notice may be an issue, but they are probably familiar with the piece. He can call the music office to get their contact info.
