Saw him yesterday ... what i wouldn't give to have the recording of the Messe Blanche he played - absolutely amazing, definitely the best i've heard.

He also played a few Scriabin preludes, equally brilliant.

He also played Valses nobles et sentimentales, which i enjoyed very much too.
Then came La Vega, by Albéniz. Not his natural habitat i guess, some parts were good but others didn't sound as spanish as they should have.
He finsihed with Il Penseroso and the Dante Fantasy. Neither of these are my cup of tea, i'm not reallyu into this sort of Liszt's long technical tour de force type pieces. The interpretation was magnificent, but like i said, these pieces don't do much for me. Having said this, Volodos is an absolute monster. Technical difficulties are just not an issue i guess.

He played two encores, sory but i didn't know what they were. He dedicated the recital to Alicia, which was nice.

Don't miss him if he comes to your town. The Scriabin was absolutely magnificent. I will never forget this performance and i think i will see the Messe Blanche from now on ina new different light.

I heard him play at Carnegie Hall several times quite a while ago. He began one concert with a few Scriabin short works and then the Sonata No. 10. Very unusual way to begin a recital but his playing was terrific IMO.

I don't think he's played in NYC for a long time.

I'm surprised he 's not in NYC, seems to be one of the top names now. My teacher said he s her favorite out of the new guys, under 40s i guess. I said "that's because you don't know Blechacz!"

But really, the Messe Blanche was a revelation. I'd herad it by various top pianists, but Volodos just made it sound like a whole new thing. It was pure gold.

And he's going to be in Lodz this year. I just simply can't wait. Rarely big names appear here, and when they do... it's Volodos! I'll be buying my tickets ASAP.

I never heard him live, but own many recordings. Many of them are my personal favourites. Technical brilliance and touching interpretations, that's what he is.

I'm a big fan too. Does anyone know why he appears so infrequently in the US? Does he share Richter's phobia about flying? More to the point, does anyone know when and where he'll be playing here next? I had the impression he had been off the circuit entirely for several years -- a Cliburn-like intermission, or maybe something else.

Interesting. I wasn't really familiar with him until I saw him do the first Brahms concerto with the CBSO in Birmingham the other week. I can't say I was impressed - his interpretation seemed very dry and detached to me. Perhaps he was just having an off night.
