I'm looking at a used piano for one of my students as an upgrade to their old clunker.

1993 Kawai KU-10 in black poly. One owner from new and very little use according to the advert. It's a private sale and I have not been to see it yet but it is quite local and a very attractive price.

Does anyone know of this model or have any experience with it?

They don't give away much detail in the ad but it looks like it's around the size of a K3 and from what I gather it was a professional model made in Japan.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I've never actually had a KU-10 but I have had a
KU-10 ATC which is the same piano but with the silent system factory installed. It was manufactured in Japan, newer vintage,127cm,1 piece lid and of gray market status. The strung back was more characteristic to the CX21D so it did not resemble the older artist level NS20A or the K50 as for quality. But hey! for the right $ it should be sufficient for the student. It is apart of the phase of the newer vintage gray market Kawai uprts. coming from Japan. Thats all I know! How much are they asking? smile

Thanks for that. They are asking £1500 which seems reasonable to me providing it checks out and is in good order.

The ad does say they bought it new from a local dealer here in the UK. I wonder about this and I don't know if there is a way I can find out if this model was ever sold new in the UK. At that price there is probably no reason to think they would lie about that.

My mistake. They said purchased as refurbished in 1993. So I would need to get the serial number to find out exactly how old it is. My guess would be 1980's or even older meaning it might not be such a good buy after all. Any idea how far back this model goes?

The KU10D is a newer vintage gray market Kawai piano. Most are going to be in the 2 million serial # and up making them production wise in the early to mid nineties.
It doesn't matter if the piano was of 1995-2008 production date, dealers would still say it was refurbished whatever that means. Typo,I believe the KU10 was 121cm /48".

Now there was a Kawai model KU? in the 60's as for there being a remote possibility of the advertised piano being a refurbished older piano. Kawai changes their mdl. #s so frequently, they are starting to repeat themselves. In that same era (60s) Kawai had a gray market 48" K8 which is nothing similar to the present Kawai K8. I have seen some of these refurbished K8 and KU? in the past in they are truly refurbished being 45-50 years old. The serial # is the test. Maybe a Kawai dealer or Kawai will chime in and tell you more info on these mdls. Maybe not in that most are not aware of the gray market mdls.
wink

Cheers PB. I will ask the seller for the serial number and check to see if my student would like to go and look at it. It's not far so I can go with them. I never pass up the opportunity to try out a piano, whatever it is. grin
