I am completely new to pianos or keyboards but both of my daughters are taking lessons. In our search for a digital piano we stopped at a dealer who sold Rolands and we were really impressed with the sound and features. We particularly fell in love with the interactive learning feature on the Hpi6. Obviously this model has many many features the kids don't need, but from what I have read they are very good units with a good resale. I can get the unit for 2995.00, from what I have found on the web that is a really good price for that model but I am hoping if you can tell me if it really is.
Thanks

The HPi6 is being replaced by the HPi6S. Basically, the biggest difference is that the HPi6 has the cheaper PHA action and the HPi6S has the PHAII with escapement action, like an HP-207. Both are ok, but the newer action is definitely better. Because it's being closed out for a new model, you ought to drive a hard bargain.

As near as I can tell, the HPi6 listed for about $4000 and sod for a bit more than $3000. The HP-207 is also about $3000 and the HPi6 was slightly more expensive than this model. So $3000 would be a fairly good price, but not a blowout.

You should see if they have any HPi6S modes and what they want to charge for one. Point out that the HPi6S is being discontinued.

If your model is really an HPi6S, than $3000 is an excellent price.

In any case, the HPi6 (or HPi6S) is a very good choice for a digital model. I'm sure that you'll enjoy it.

This seems to sell for around
$3300, so that's apparently a good
price. This is a fine instrument,
but its main selling point is
that it can teach you to play the
piano. But since your daughters
are taking lessons, that negates
its primary attraction, and the
premium you're paying--for the
interactive teaching feature--is
essentially wasted. However, if
you want to learn the piano and
don't want to take lessons--and
if the cost of the instrument
is not a consideration--then this
might be worthwhile.

However, if you just want a piano
for practicing on at home, then you
can get perfectly good digitals
for less than $1000, for example,
the Casio PX 800 or the M-Audio
DCP 200, both $900 from amazon.com.
These will play just as well
as an HPi 6.

Thanks, the unit arrived last night and it is indeed a HPi6s. I had to stop my 14 year old from playing last night so she would go to bed, so hopefully they will continue to use it a lot!!

Thank you for the input, I will definately pass the recommendation on to the other moms in my daughters class who are looking to make a purchase. We did consider the M-Audio DCP200, this model would have been fine with me because I will probably never play it. However my hubby really felt like the Hpi6s would be used more, he is hoping to learn some himself without taking any lessons. At any rate it arrived yesterday and my oldest likes the interactive learning feature but my oldest does not care either way. It does have many other features she likes though.
