Hello,

I did a search here as well as online, and can't find much out about the CE-8. The seller is asking $1100 and claims the piano is about 10 years old. Any advice with this model? We had several Kawai uprights and grands while I was studying music in college, but I never came across a CE-8. All comments and recommendations would be welcome.

Joshua,

Serial number will help to verify age. Here's a link.

I think the CE-8 was available for institutional bids, but probably more a piano for elementary schools than music studios at colleges. Ten years old seems a little too young to me.

I have fond memories of the CE-7, a very good small low-priced piano. Assuming the CE-8 followed it and offered further refinement with a couple of extra inches of height, it might be a fine buy in good condition. Someone like Steve Cohen or pianobroker could speak with more authority on this.

One thing I can tell you. These were not high-line or high-priced Kawais, more of a basic no-frills line.

Thanks for the information. The piano was sold by the time I got to it, but I'll file this away for the future.

One of the best console pianos made! As prices continued to go higher, dealers found it harder and harder to sell this piano. Kawai started making bigger (cheaper quality) pianos that saw the demise of this piano. CX-series I bought some of the last, in numbers exceeding 20 or more at a time, for rentals, and they hold up incredibly well!
Models went from a CE-7, CE-8 to a CE-11 and discontinued after the CE-11. All of these were made in Japan and very high quality console pianos.

The price you were quoted is excellent, and if there are no problems unforseen, you should buy it!
