I'm putting a Dampp Chaser on Dolly, my 72 year old short and wide Kurtzmann baby grand. Exactly how crazy am I?

My tech is the person who recommended it. There's a small crack in the soundboard that causes a buzzing with humitidy changes. It hasn't been a problem until recently when we've had the wettest weather here in years - a true monsoon season. I'm pretty sure it will work since the buzzing goes away after the room warms up and dries out a bit from my heater.

So what you're saying is that humidity exacerbates the buzzing of the soundboard crack, but once things dry out a bit the buzzing goes away. I'm wondering if that's typical? Not being technical my mind would have thought it would be the other way around, humidity would swell the board and close up cracks and stop buzzing. Any techs care to comment?

That's more or less what my tech explained to my husband. (Husband doesn't speak piano and I wasn't there at the time.)
