Just thought it might be fun to reverse Andree's question on his thread.

I've seen many threads here that go to the question of digital replication of acoustic performance tendencies. I don't believe I've seen one that makes digital tone and touch the reference point for acoustic replication.

Assume a high performance digital with smooth note to note transitions, a decent number of touch response levels, and a bit of variation in timbre that accompanies different strike velocities. Assume a somewhat compressed sound production that is consistent to the point of boredom for many, but is utterly user-friendly, free of idiosyncrasies, and unfailingly reliable.

Which acoustic is the gold standard in measuring up? smile

You will find that the answer truly lies in the realm of varying taste, rather than a particular physical trait or brand name. Also remember that even top level pianos require a degree of prepping/voicing ect. to get them to convey their characteristics in a consistant manner throughout the entire range of the keyboard. If I were to generalize without taking taste into account, concert grands would be the gold standard simply because of their size and how that translates into lower iH and more prominant lower partials as you move into the bass.
