I'm trying to get info on this 9 note tune. Everyone has heard it, but no one seems to know its origin.

"Mystery Piece"

It reminds me of a piece I played as a child. That was the LH in swinging 8ths and then the RH had some minor 2nds and some chromaticism. I was kind of a weird kid, so I'm not sure if it was supposed to be swung, but I did it anyways. smile Anyway, I think it was out of an old Rock with Jazz book, but they only publish books 1 and 2 now, and it's not in there. Sorry it's not much help.

I don't know the original composer, or title, but there is a version of it here: http://www.amazon.com/Al-Webber/e/B001LHF09C/ref=ntt_mus_dp_pel

Check out track 2, 'The Villains Theme'

Thanks Morodiene, I'm sure those 9 notes have been used in different pieces.

Hey Rob, big help! I've got the title, and it's probably from the Silent Film era.

P.D.Q. Bach: Musical Sacrifice (S. 50% off) - I. Fuga meshuga.

Seriously. It's on the disc "The Ill Conceived P.D.Q. Bach Anthology", and yes, it's very meshuga.

By the way, whilst trying to find that tune, I came across this site:
http://www.musipedia.org/

Apologies if you have already seen it, but although it didn't help in this case, I experimented with playing in a few familiar phrases, and found it quite useful.

Yeah, I've found several versions of that short riff. Still don't know its origin though. Many have used it though.

Thanks Morodiene! Now I know it at least dates back to 1929. I'll keep searching for earlier dates.

I think that was just a novelty adding the "Villian's Theme" to "Shoo Shoo Boogie Boo". It wasn't part of the original song. I'm still thinking the Villian's Theme" originated in the Silent Film era. I gotta find Out!!!

Cool - "Shoo Shoo Boogie Boo"!
I wonder if that's the real original.....seems like it could be.
Good job!

BTW......I'm surprised that "Shoo Shoo Boogie Boo" isn't a more well known thing, assuming it's the origin of that riff.
It SHOULD be.
