I just ordered a pair of powered studio monitors with a locking XLR/TRS combo jack input. I am wondering what is the best way to hook them up to my YDP-160. The first thought is to use the headphone out to plug it directly into the speaker. Will this work? Is it the best option? I have some 1/4" to XLR cables.

Hi Linux,

SInce the YDP160's only option for audio out is the headphone jack, you're going to need to split the L and R signals from the stereo headphone output. Sounds like a trip to RadioShack is in order.

Which monitors did you order?

Thanks for the reply. I got a pair of Fostex PM-1 MKII 6.5" Active Nearfield Studio Monitors. I may end up using them with my Korg portable keyboard which has L and R outputs.

Do you know how much they will improve the sound on the Yamaha? I am in the process of renovations, so I haven't had a chance to unbox them yet.
