Hi everyone! I am relatively new here. I compose music for the piano. My compositions reflect a mix of "classical" and 20th century music. I made a website to make a portion of my music known. My first set of pieces are short. I'd like to know what ya think!

Howdy Mister A, welcome aboard...

Listened to your short waltz... Pleasant, though a bit simplistic. And I confess, I don't see what's "mysterious" about it - seems pretty straightforward melodically and harmonically.

Anyway, always glad to meet another composer, I look forward to seeing some more of your stuff...

Thanks! I just updated the site with two other pieces I just composed. I try to keep things simple sometimes. Sometimes its inevitable to do else-wise. Simple pieces have their own charm. Descriptions of each piece are on the page.

About the mystery, the melody interacts with a mocking "counter-melody" by transferring itself.

I like your works! I just wish they were a bit longer. You have some great ideas, so I would encourage you to try taking those ideas and developing them a bit further. This will help create longer pieces. Perhaps think of a Rondo or ABA form to help you get started. Or perhaps a theme and variations. Simple is often hard to compose, so congrats on accomplishing that. smile

Thanks! I will work on some longer pieces with Rondo (and versions), Theme and Variations, and Sonata (ABA) form. Finale is the program I use, and a Finale .mus file will be needed to read beyond page 1. I'll continue to post my pieces. I update the site when I can. You can see the date right under the title and in the title bar. I should mention that the sound files are not me actually playing, but they are recordings of my Finale playback. I strive to keep those files as small as possible, but that may be difficult for larger pieces. Midi files are short, but they don't have the sound quality.

Finale should be able to export as a .pdf, which is universally readable. smile

I have never had any luck with Finale's PDF export feature. But you can also get free PDF writers which basically emulate a printer - then within Finale you go to the print menu, but instead of printing to your normal printer, you print to the PDF writer and it will create the file for you. I personally use PDF995 which is the best free one I've come across so far, but there are numerous ones out there.

I'll give the PDF format a shot! It would definitely be better than a bunch of images - one for each page (yikes). I also added an etude I made a while back in early 2009, which is larger than one page. It has a rather interesting form.

Hmmmm...never had any problems here. Perhaps you mean an old version of Finale? I use 2009.

I just found out that my Finale is old. It's version 2004.a. I tried to make a PDF according to its instructions, but I found out that two things are incompatible and keep me from doing anything. However, I made a major update to my site and included several preludes. My older pieces are still there. I made a link for them. Hope ya enjoy it!

I use Finale 2006. And I guess I should qualify that - I have had _some_ limited success with it's PDF feature on some of my simpler pieces. But some of the more recent pieces I've been working on just don't seem to want to convert. The pieces in question do have quite a bit of complexity to them, so I wonder if there is just something in there that the PDF conversion algorithm doesn't like. Who knows. Anyway, the PDF995 solution works fine, so I'm not too concerned.

That could be; too much complexity. I should qualify that I have never attempted to export anything really complex, such as an orchestral score. I stick to piano composition. I hope to remedy that with a new teacher next semester, who will be able to teach both composition and piano. smile
