Hello -- I am a new member. This is actually my very first post! I was wondering if someone could tell me how electronic/digital music is notated. The music of Brian Emo or Tangerine Dream would be good examples.

Thanks everyone.

Should be the same as other types of music. The only difference in notation are for specific instruments, like guitar tabs and drumsets. Unless of course, you mean something else by notation than what I'm thinking.

They don't notate effects or anything like that? What if they're using an analog synthesizer (like a moog?) It seems like there is more going on than just playing notes.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I did want to say welcome to the forum, ToneCanvas! smile

I'm guessing that most transcriptions you'd find for electronica would probably be formatted for piano/keyboard, with at best a particular effect indicated in small italics at the top of the staff, e.g., strings. But that's just a guess. It would sure be interesting to get a peek at Eno's own original sheets to see how he indicates what sound effect should be played when.
