Hi

This thread is hopefully going to be a discussion about peoples beginning compositions. I will post mine when I can and will welcome any comments. I have written a few pieces back when my music theory was about grade 3-4 level and so will have many flaws in them. But please comment any way.

To get me started can any one help with an efficient method for betting images of score up loaded so we can view them here. I use Sibelius.

I'm writing a really unusual composition at the moment - an Etude for left hand in Gm (inspired by Ravel's concerto for left hand) - I'll put it up when I've finished!
I'm just doing one bass stave, but I have the intention of making it a real technical study to improve my lefty as it's not in good state at the moment after studying lots of right hand heavy pieces!

PS about your signature, you CAN get a grand for that money, my uncle paid £350 for a beautiful old Baldwin - I know that sounds almost unbelievable, but the wood was in a pretty bad state and the owner wasn't a Pianist so she didn't know what she was getting rid of - turns out he polished it up and had it tuned etc. and now it sounds incredible! I asked the owner of a music shop that specialises in Baldwins near me and after listening to it he said it sounded nicer than some of the newer pianos he has in the store!

Being that not every pianist is lucky enough to lose their right hand, it may be wise to compose pieces for right hand only. I think there are quite a few in the repertoire for left hand only. Just an idea...

I actually sprained my left wrist in college, and while I was healing, I wrote a couple pieces for RH only. I'll have to see if I can dig those up sometime. If I can find them, I'll post them... But I know what you're saying John, seems like there's a fair number of LH only works, but not much for RH only.

Mine from a year ago is like 3 different ideas in one. Might work better if I separate each of the phrases into their own separate composition, but at the moment, I'm satisfied with the sound (the harmonic counter-point is a nice bonus).

It's pretty decent, but it's a good attempt (I'm not exactly even intermediate yet.)
