Hi all,

I recorded Debussy's Prelude, "Bruyeres", from Book II. Did this today on my Baldwin L using a Zoom H2 recorder.

Enjoy.

Hi Chris,

Bravo! Your playing of "Bruyeres" (Heaths) is wonderful. You capture the idyllic imagery in all its colors. You achieve a nice, smooth legato throughout too with just the right amount of impressionistic "wash" in the pedaling. Your Baldwin L sounds great too.

Interestingly, "Bruyeres" is a companion piece to "La fille aux cheveux de lin" from Book 1. And there are a couple of other parallels between Books 1 and 2 respectively":

"Les sons et les parfums"/"Feuilles mortes"
"Minstrels"/"General Lavine--Eccentric"

Between the two volumes there is so much great music! Thanks for recording and sharing your performance here.

David

Thanks, David, for the encouragement. The effect I aimed for was that of shifting light and shadow over a meadow. I hope I achieved that a bit.

The Baldwin was tuned and voiced just a few days ago, and so is more of a pleasure than usual to play.

I had been aware of the parallels between Bruyeres and La fille aux cheveux de lin but had not thought about the parallels between the others. But it's obvious now that you mention them.
