Hi!
Regardles of the sound (that is subjective), can you tell me why to buy a Roland LX-10 and not a CLP 380 or vice versa!
Thanks a lot.
Regards Björn

CLP-380, I have one and it is completely brilliant. I am almost positive the LX-10 is inferior, not by a great deal, but not as good a product. The speaker system on the clp380 is better and the grand piano 1 tones are richer with more dynamic sampling per key. Dont be put off by the 50 sampling banks either vs the 88 key sampling of the Roland - its totally insignificant.

Regards

Mark

With digitals it's touch, tone, and appearance. Touch first, because it can't be changed. (Those touch settings are essentially tone filters.) Tone can be changed by connecting your DP to a software piano which is stored on your computer.

The 380 has Yamaha's best action and five dynamic levels of sampling. (Timbre should change with volume.)

You can compare specifications by checking the manufacturers' websites, but there's no substitute for actually auditioning the DP's that you're considering.

A set of studio quality headphones will let you hear the full quality of a DP's included sounds. Sennheiser's HD 600's qualify, but they're pricey. In any case, the 'phones can make such a difference that it'd be worthwhile to buy a set, to use when auditioning.

You dont want to try the clp380 with headphones, through the headphones the IAFC does not work, because its an external extra set of rear speakers that produce the sounds. The IAFC is another reason its a better piano than the Roland, it creates the finishing touches to make the piano sound spacious and soundboard damper resonance effects. With IAFC on it makes a big difference to the overall sound of the piano tones, in particular the Grand Piano 1 set of tones.

I'm curious if you have actually played the LX-10 or are just going by the stats? I've tried the LX-10 and thought it sounded great but have not actually played the CLP-380.

CLP-380 is more expensive, 99% of the time this means the product is superior, fact. The IAFC is what makes it that bit extra compared to the Roland. V-Piano is the only contender, well it has modelling not sampling and is superior to the 380, and its more expensive.

Thanks for that info. I'll remember it when making auditioning recommendations.

mwf,

That kind of thinking will get you a place in the PW Hall of Fame, but won't make you smarter or a better shopper.

You may as well quit asking for audio interface recommendations on your thread and just buy the most expensive one you can find. Surely it will be the best for anyone.

On the question you were asked: yes or no.
