hi, I'm just about to buy a digital piano, and from the reviews I read, the yamaha p85/p90 are the best for an average price of 600-800€

which one is the most interesting ?
from what I see, the only difference : the p90 has 25 sounds where the p85 has only 10, is there something else ?

thats my first digital so I'd like to chose the best one
(I already noticed that the p90 is impossible to find in stores, where the p85 is still sold)

The P90 is 1 generation older than the P85. That is why you cannot find it in store.
The P90 has better action, is build robust and does not have internal speakers.

If I were you, I would look at a different model as the P85 isn't the best choice given it's limited single layer piano sample, and the GHS which is Yahama's cheapest and lightest. You could look at a Korg SP 250 or 2 models from Casio PX-130, 330 which would be better choices.

I have two P90s, I bought both used. I didn't want speakers and preferred a stage piano, so it was a good choice for me. You can still find them for a pretty good price, about $500US, not sure of availability wherever you are.

Hi, I am a bit confused, I have a P-80 (no speakers) and I have had a P-90, the P-90 had built in speakers and yet you folks have said it does not, I have never seen the P-85 but I do have the P-80 and I know it has more than a single layer piano sample, is there a difference between the P-80 and the P-85. I noticed a difference in the P-80 vrs the P-90 sound quality, the P-80 was better, I did a side by side comperison with them both hooked up to my amp thus bypassing the built in speakers in the P-90, I think the sampling might be different or somthing but I am not sure what, the P-80 has been a work horse for me and never let me down and it is still going strong, I highly reccomend the P-80 if you can find one. **Update, I just looked on Yamaha's website and found that the P80 and the p85 are very different, the p80 and the p90 are listed under stage piano's and the p85 and others like it are listed under electronic piano's, I get the feeling that the stage piano's are better than the electronic, check out there website and you can see the differences, aloha.

I have two P90s, one is sitting next to me and it has no speakers. Even though it's no longer made, you can still look it up on Yamaha's website here and view the specs. The P80 was released in about 1999, the P90 in about 2003. They are very similar.

Even Yamaha seems to be confused: Sometimes the P-85/P-155 are listed as stage pianos in their promotional materials (but only if the CP33 and CP300 are not included!), sometimes not.

As far as I understand it, the P-80 and P-90 were more solid and primarily meant for gigging, while the P-85 is really Yamaha's answer to the PX-120/130, i.e. more lightweight and less expensive than the previous sub-100 models.

Think of everything as a hybrid, besides those obviously big, chunky, upright, digital pianos. And those with no speakers don't count as a hybrid either.
Then life would be clearer, unless you get hunted down by those digital piano critiques. Lol!
