Hi everyone. Would like some feedback on some DP that I am considering to purchase. If you've played or owned anyone of these, could you please tell me the pros and cons of each? I have been dabbling with a Yamaha PSR2700 for 18 years. It gave out so I need a new one. If you have any other suggestions beside those listed below, I'm all ears. Please advise...Thank you!

First of all - I'm very much a beginner still, so take my advice with my grain of salt.

I've been shopping for a digital for a while now and ended up with the Korg SP-250 - it'll reach my local post office today or tomorrow, so I can give you more feedback on it after that.

While comparing digitals I also looked at the FP4, FP7 and RD700GX from Roland, the P85 and P155 from Yamaha, and the Kurzweill SP2X.

I didn't like the action of the Roland keyboards - I've seen a lot of people complaining about the "hard bottom" of the keys, and this is also what I experienced - to me it felt like the keys had a bit less travel than I was expecting.

The Yamahas had a much better action, and the P155 might have had my favourite keyboard of the ones I tested. I felt the Korg and the P85 had similar actions, with the Korg having a slight edge, however I did not have a chance to compare them side-by-side as no shops around here had both models in stock. I did not like the sound of the Yamahas very much, though - it sounded too bright and synthetic to my ears.

I actually really liked the Kurzweill SP2X, despite the lack of a graded hammer keyboard I felt the action was very realistic, however I'm short of space and it is a lot wider than the other models I tested.

In the end it was down to the Yamaha P155 vs the Korg SP250, and while I suspect that the Yamaha might be the better keyboard, the Korg was just a much better deal for me (NOK 6750 w/stand+pedal, vs NOK 13000 for the Yamaha with no accessories).

Why don't tell us a little more about your needs such as what you like to play; do you like to use other voices besides the piano sound; will you be gigging with it; budget max; if purchasing speakers separately is a big deal, etc. You've got quite a list there that have big differences between models. Then, maybe we can speak to those specific needs.

1.Yamaha
2.Kawai
3.Korg
4.Roland

Very nice are the yamaha 300 series and the new Kawai CA18.....

I own a yamaha CLP 320 Polished Ebony, very nice. Sober, no display, an accurate simulation of a grand piano, and the sweet moody glossy look and nice ebony polished finish and very important the sound.

Hi Emma, thanks for asking.
I enjoyed the many voices and rhythms my previous keyboard had. Was possible to
play chords with single finger too.
I like layering sounds so am looking for many zone capability. I don't like high
pitch sounds or thumping sounding keys. Prefer playing rock, hard rock, ballads,
60's and 70's songs, classicals, theatre, movies themes, new age, foreign and
world music.
Any help within those areas would be helpful.
If anyone can help me decide what keyboard I should purchase considering the
criteria above would be most helpful.

I have a Yamaha p155 which I thoroughly enjoy for playing mostly classical pieces and some popular songs. It, however, does not have many other voices- I think a total of 17, two of which are piano. There are no onboard rhythms. You can only layer two voices at once. It can record two tracks. I personally have not used the two track function, but have recently enjoyed recording and then saving to a USB storage device. I am NOT a techno phile so I am slowly getting my feet wet. I very much enjoy the feel of the GHE action, like the idea that it is easily portable, like the piano sound, especially thru headphones, and it feels solidly well made. The Yamaha YPG635 has tons of voices and also has rhythms. I know the Rolands and Kawais have more onboard than the p155 but also cost more than the p155. Good luck on your search!!!

Sounds like a Yamaha Motif XS8 is what you need.
