Hi,

Not a frequent poster in this part of the forum really, except to offer advice some times, but this time I need your help! smile

I'm looking to buy a GOOD sustain pedal, for my DP (which I use connected to my computer with Ivory, Garritan Steinway, Pianoteq and will buy more soon-ish).

I do need, however, a sustain pedal that has proportional pedalling abilities (so half pedaling, and so on), to use with pianoteq and GAST in particular, which do support such a feature.

I do know of CME but I've read so many bad reviews, I'm not really sure it's a good idea to buy it blindly! So... any other suggestions will be most welcomed, please!

Nikolas

Nikolas, may I ask the model of your digital piano?

This may influence the pedal recommendations as it's possible that not all units will be compatible.

Kind regards,
James

Ah... you're right.

It's a Casio Privia PX110. But keep in mind that, I wouldn't mind a sustain pedal connected via USB directly to my computer (since I use the DP only with my computer and I need such a sustain pedal for such purposes).

Thanks and sorry for forgetting to mention it.

Your computer hears Midi from the DP. The sustain pedal also sends Midi. The "sustain Midi" needs to be included with the "DP Midi" as info sent to the computer, so you would only ever have the sustain pedal hooked up to the DP not to the computer directly.

by the way, is there any pedal with realistic weight? I am happy with the half-pedalling capabilities of my HP-203 pedal, but I'd really like for it to offer at least three times the resistance to my foot...

Here's how I think you might be able to accomplish this:

- Use the Casio SP 30 pedal bar.
- Use the CME GPP3.
- Use a MIDI device like MIDI Solutions Pedal Controller with a pedal that supports half damper action. (Cost is about $150 US plus the pedal.)
- Build your own pedal controller with a programmable microprocessor. I remember seeing circuit board and programs for doing this, but don't have a link to them.
- Buy a second midi controller that supports half pedaling and connect your pedal to that unit.

Personally, I have not tried any of the above.

Nope, that's not accurate.

Inside Cubase I can grab midi info from "all midi input" (if this is the term, since I'm not in my studio right now), so I can be grabbing MIDI info (at the same time) from my DP (The Casio PX110) and an Oxygen 8 (M-audio, connected through USB).

In fact this is why I got Oxygen in the first place. To add modulation and pitch bend on my DP. And it worked! wink

Rich: Yikes! I see what you mean, but isn't it a tad too complicated?

I'm not saying it can't be done. Midi is very flexible and routing it from almost anywhere is possible. I've sent Midi from different buildings to one common source. I'm just saying you're making problems for yourself if you do it that way.

imho

The good suggestion is

- Buy a second midi controller that supports half pedaling and connect your pedal to that unit.

Does the Casio PX110 support 1/2 pedaling with the SP30?

Thanks to jscomposer's thead here, I was able to use Midi Solutions Continuous Foot Controller and a Yamaha FC3 with Garritan Steinway.

http://www.pianoworld.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/1176981/Searchpage/2/Main/56464/Words/jscomposer/Search/true/Re:%20FINALLY!%20Full%203-pedal%20capa.html#Post1176981

BTW, I bought the CME three pedal unit a few years ago. Worked intermittently than started causing blue screen errors.

Well, it is much less complicated than a typical band's keyboard and midi set up.

Yes, the Casio's support 1/2 pedal (sustain only) with the SP30 (SP32 for the PX130/330).

It's too bad your Oxygen 8 doesn't already support 1/2 pedal.

I'm using the FC3 too, but sometimes it (or rather the spring inside) is a little squeaky. Perhaps it's time for an oil change? smile

I suppose I will have to try the fix suggested here:

I have a Roland DP8, very solid, works great with my GEM.

Don't buy CME's 3 pedal thing!
