I just listened to a whole bunch of songs by this composer. I never heard of him until I came to this forum. My first question is “where have I been?”. Second, How do you pronounce his last name?. Sometimes extraordinary music is not just thrown at you, it has to be sought out…Patrick

OMG, another Einaudi fan; help as if...

Welcome to the forum none the less; glad to have you on board.

It should be pronounced Ey-no-dee.

You should hear from Monica K, high priestess of the Einaudi fans around here, pretty soon.

Cheers

Welcome to the forum, MovementCode9!

Glad to have another Einaudi fan aboard. smile

We've got our very own Ludovico Einaudi thread here on the forums that's been alive for some time (much to the dismay of others, I'm sure.)

Here's the link to that thread: Ludovico Einaudi ABF thread

Feel free to bring up normal Einaudi discussion there. As a matter of fact, I think I'll make another post over there right now.

Welcome to the forum, MovementCode9!! smile May I compliment you on your *excellent* taste in music. thumb

If you don't already have it, go right out and buy the "Best of Einaudi" sheet music collection. I'm not sure how long you've been playing piano, but the easiest pieces in that book can probably be tackled by somebody with 6 months or so of playing under their belt. And the collection contains most of the pieces in Einaudi's early albums, so it has a range of music to last a lifetime of learning.

It's not much of an exaggeration to say that I worship the ground Einaudi walks on, and we have some other seriously devoted Einaudi fans here on the forum. Both Anthony and I spent crazy amounts of money and traveled thousands of miles to go hear him play in his American concert debut a year ago. whome

If you check out my YouTube channel, most of the videos I have uploaded are Einaudi pieces. smile

p.s. Hmmm.... I've been pronouncing his name "I-now-dee" myself. Now I'm confused. confused

Well, Monica, seems we were both half-right: here is the pronounciation by an italian woman.

Cheers

Thanks for the recommendation of the sheet music, Monica. I also had never heard of Einaudi until joining the forums, and a couple of YouTube videos later I'm a huge fan. Nice also to know that at least some of his music is accessible to relative beginners (I re-started lessons again 10 months ago after a 47-year hiatus, probably playing at an early grade 3 level at this point.)

Thanks, Daniel!! "Ay-Now-Dee" it is! thumb

And welcome to Einaudi Piano World, Kiko01and Thumper49! smile

Thumper, if you have the fortitude to tackle all the pages of the Einaudi mega-thread that Anthony linked above, you'll see that most of us agree that the easiest pieces to start off with are Limbo, Exit, and I due fiumi. Of those, IDF is the hardest, but it's also the prettiest, imo. I'm fuzzy on what the various Grades mean, but I suspect you would have no problems with any of those pieces.

My thanks to everyone for the welcome and for solving the Einaudi pronunciation mystery. You have saved me from having to refer to him as Luooie.

ddh. Thanks for the Italian woman pronunciation.
AnthonyB. Happy birthday to you and thanks for the link to ay-now-dee's thread.
Monica K. I really need to listen to more of his music (I know it will be time well spent) before I pick out a piece I would like to work on, but thanks for letting me know his sheet music is available. I watched one of your youtube videos. You are a true inspiration to us self learners. I hope to play as well as you one day.

This forum is a blessing. I am in awe of how a worldwide group of diverse people can get together and share their passion for a musical instrument in all its current forms (acoustic and digital) and do so with intelligence and dignity.

I've so far went with a more german approach to the pronounciation, like: Es ist ein Audi, Jah? Nein, dummkopf, es ist ein BMW!

Regardless, it's some very pretty music smile

As another closet fan and a piano-beginner (ABRSM grade 2 exam in mid-December)- what pieces in particular would you recommend that i could hope to play given my limited skill-set? I prefer to buy pieces separately as i find the binding of most books to be irritating.

I have heard of him a few years ago (husband introduced me to this music), but only became a big fan since last week or so, when I saw him play live!!! Next day I ordered all the CDs (yes, I think I have most if not all of his songs on my iPod now). And after the concert bought Nightbook sheet music. I must be a very sad person, because I have a spreadsheet with all his albums and and sheet music books to check which ones are in which, so I don't get all the book/CDs and repeat songs too many times... Actually, I have Einaudi playing now on my laptop, in a mix with Giovanni Allevi.

gintarec, if you're sad, I must be even MORE pathetic, because my first thought on reading your post was "I should PM her and ask her to ship me a copy of that spreadsheet!" laugh

Allevi is good, too. smile

Ingersoll, I really am clueless when it comes to Grades and what that means in terms of skill sets. But I would encourage you to order the music for "I due fiumi" and start with that.

Actually, I'd still recommend that you buy the Best of sheet music book rather than download the pieces separately, and then just Xerox the ones you're working on as you get to them (or, take an Exacto knife to the book and cut out the pages.) The book has, what, something like 26 pieces in it, but it only costs around $25; it's much more cost effective to buy the book than individual pieces. (Assuming you'll want to learn/play most of them eventually. With Einaudi's work, that's a fairly safe assumption. wink )

Just to prove how sad I am, according to my 'spreadsheet' there should be 36 songs...

Oh, and you are welcome to the spreadsheet - probably I missed half of his work through my 'ignorance'!

I guess it’s time to come out of the closet and announce that I’m a mad crazy fan of Einaudi also.
I was listening to the last recitals and heard Monica played one of his songs. So I found Monica’s youtube videos and there was more. That’s when I lost my mind and had to find the music. Now I have the Nightbook and the Echoes Collection. One of my favorites is Le Onde. My goal is to work up to learn to play his music, but I only have four month into playing so I have to wait frown. If he makes it to the US and will have to go see him.

I love your login name, nvrgonaquit! grin

I started out by buying the Echoes CD, but it was a waste of money because I had to go back and buy all his albums... which I predict you'll find yourself doing. wink Right now I am reduced to scouring eBay and foreign websites to track down his more obscure albums. (If anybody can find me a legal place to purchase the Dr. Zhivago soundtrack, I'll send you a finder's fee...)

Is this one legal?... It looks a bit cheap.

Well, now I'm going to look silly because I claim to have been scouring the internet for this album for ages and you find it in, oh, 30 seconds. whome

I looked up their "legal info," and I'm not sure that this site is actually legal, as they claim to be following Russian copyright law--and my sense is that Russians play a little fast and loose with copyright. wink

...is that going to stop me from buying it from that site? Probably not. grin I can only download stuff on my home computer, so I'll have to wait until tonight to order it. But it looks like you win the finder's fee, gintarec. I'll gladly buy a sheet music download for any Einaudi piece of your choosing. PM me with your email address and what piece you want, and I'll get it to you by the weekend. smile

I will 'wave' the finders fee... Just let me know how good the music is and I might 'be brave' to order it from that website as well!

You guys now have 2 threads about Einaudi?!? You're nuts! Well, maybe not yet as much as the Chopin folks.

Where's the Jerry Lee Lewis thread around here? laugh
