I was thinking this morning, "What's the one[/b] place where I should make my one[/b] thousandth post?" and then one[/b] thought occurred to me. Now that there's only one[/b] moderator, maybe this thread would get deleted and that would be one[/b] wasted effort. I decided that one[/b] must take one's[/b] chances. And here I didn't think I had one[/b] thing to say, much less one[/b] thousand (those who read my posts might think otherwise). Still, I'm only one[/b] tenth as erudite and vociferous as Monica

Even though I've been known to delete threads, this is the one[/b] I will keep, as I am afraid that some one[/b] may get really angry.

Since this is the one[/b] place to post anything, today I am gonna post the most insane video of the most insane sport I have ever seen. This is a video about "wing-suit" base-jumping. It is a newer sport in which sky divers wear a specially made human "flying squirrel" type suit which enables them to literally fly with exacting precision at over 100mph. This is just nuts!. If you want to see more video's like this one[/b], just google "mounain wing suit" and there are tons more youtube video's like this. This is absolutely insane but gosh does it look like a rush!. BTW, One of the main wing suit jumpers is currently trying to perfect a *stall* type of landing in where he never needs to open his chute to land but simply glides until he runs out of speed and then stalls out to a soft landing. I guess "simply" may be a bit of an understatement!. Anyway, the guy working on the *stall* move almost has it down and now only jumps with a very small reserve chute and will soon wean off chutes altogether!. SOO nutz!. port http://www.biertijd.com/mediaplayer/?itemid=4262

Rocky, I also tried skydiving once[/b]. It was such a thrill and also such a blur that I decided to try yet one[/b] more time. After that, I thought I'd better not push my luck risking my life on some nylon string and canvas!

Rocky & Rosanna: You guys are animals...ANIMALS I say!. I always wanted to go skydiving but could only imagine pulling the chute open and just a bunch of forks and knives come out like in the cartoons!. I did do the next closest thing years ago and that was to go parasailing on a 500 foot long line. The nice thing was that the chute is already open and the boat just lets out the line and up you go. The view from hanging by a parachute at 500 feet is absolutely breathtaking. I think parasailing is a great way to get the thrill of skydiving without worrying about the chute opening!. Btw, Rocky & Rosanna, did you guys happen to get any pics of your jump?....(your both nutz!).

I know I have one[/b] or two photo's...although I'm going to have to search for them. I jumped 30 years ago!! Yikes...I can't be that old!! I thought I had told this story here before, but since I'm getting old it is ok to repeat myself. On my number one[/b] jump....from the time I reached out to hold onto the wing of the plane until the chute opened, I believe I blacked out. Then, the sensation of floating slowly to the earth while looking out over the countryside was absolutely great!! Next thing you know, you are getting closer and closer to the ground and seem to be going faster and faster.....and so you remember all your valuable training on how to land......you are prepared.....and then.... **SPLAT** You hit like a ton of bricks and collapse on the ground. Next thing you know you are in the emergency room having torn all the ligaments in your ankle and are in horrible pain. Time passes....you decide I have got to show people I can skydive without injuring myself. So you put on your brave face and hold onto the wing of that plane again...let go...float down....and then.... *splat* ... it still wasn't fun landing but I did it without hurting myself. Next, I retire from skydiving. Parasailing has always sounded fun, but I have yet to try it. I'm also gonna bungee jump one[/b] of these days!

After the ride/flight whatever you call it, the boat has a winch that just reels you slowly back in onto the deck and all is well. As far as bungee jumping goes, I had a neighbor years ago that did it and went into shock as a result. Also had to change his pants!. That just does'nt appeal to me!.

Mr. SH, I don't have one[/b] (Phew BB Player, glad I got the one[/b] out of the way) single picture of my skydiving, which was about 20 year ago. Somewhat similar to Rocky, when I jumped out, I had a total lack of orientation, sensation etc. It wasn't a black-out, but more a white-out - strange. Then there was this big jerk when the chute opened - you're suddenly lifted up really fast. After that, actually there wasn't any sensation of falling as the rate of fall vs the horizon and the ground somehow didn't give a sense of my change in altitude. It was really nice and peaceful. And luckily, there was no splatt!

Are every one[/b] of you nuts? I, for one[/b] would not get into a plane and have some one[/b] shout "5, 4, 3, 2, 1[/b] JUMP" if you paid me one[/b] million dollars.

OH MY !!!! Wonder how many of those guys died developing that winged suit. That is going to make base jumping with a chute obsolete. Once Kiteboarding came out, windsurfing has calmed quite a bit. My skydiving jump was a lot like Rocky's, hanging off the wing and letting go, except my landing was good, like jumping off a picnic table. The thing that made it only one jump was the plane we jumped from crashed afterwards. The pilot was hotdogging and didn't make it from a stall manuever. It's quite a high fatality sport, if you talk to people who do it regularly. I bungeed off a hotair balloon, surprisingly good rush. Somehow, jumping into hard ground and trusting some rubberbands is a good idea. Surfing a big day on North Shore is quite extreme as well. Although now they are towing into 40+ foot waves. Even when I was younger and in better shape , I wondered if the near drowning experiences is worth it. Lost my edge when my kid was born :p Things can go bad in a split second of hesitation. I try to take a more calculated approach these days.

SH, That is one insane video. Flying that close to ground, one missed step and you're history; heck hit a bit of down draft and you become instant human pancake. I want to see that stall landing without the chute! Gotta give credit where it's due...to the flying squirrels [edit] lol, I just read monica's response and we used the exact same words! Definitely suicidal but man what a way to go.

Polostrings: You've obviously got a wild hair (or ten!), maybe we could possibly get you into one of those flying squirrel wing suits?. Actually, I don't think that "wing-suit" flying would be all that dangerous if they just flew around the sky without buzzing the mountains and tree lines...(flying under bridges too!) but like the guy in the video said, they all started to get bored!. If they just jumped out of the plane (or mountain top), stayed FAR away from the mountains and tree lines (bridges too!), and simply flew around for a while, that would be SUCH an incredible rush. Then at a safe elevation, pull the chute cord just as normal and land......(mind you, I am saying all this while safely typing from my keyboard with both feet firmly planted on the ground! ). Btw, if you all want one[/b] more video to equal this one[/b], I'll look up the guy who mounted a small pair of turbine engines onto a pair of motocross boots, jumped out of a plane and ignited the boosters and then flew all around the city just like superman!. It was SOOO nutz!. I think the guy flew all around the city of Chicago just like you would imagine superman would until his hot water bottle (which was strapped to his stomach and used as a gas tank) ran out of gas. I'll try to find it later as my wife went shopping and I'm gonna eat a bunch of junk food before she gets back!. I don't want her to catch me as I'm always preaching to her about it!.
