How to estimate asking price for used piano

After my teenager retired from piano practice I find the need to part with the Baby Grand she used to play. Is there a "Blue Book" for pianos? It's an ebony polish Kawai GE-20 I purchased new in 2002. I'm looking for a rough resale value to determine whether to go through the hassle of listing and selling versus donating it to our local theatre. Any help would be appreciated Bill Kansas City, Missouri

There is a good table for figuring out its value in Piano Buyer. Go to: Piano Buyer Depreciation Schedule.

Hi Bill -
Once you've decided on a value for your piano, then comes the consideration of the potential hassle of trying to sell it, and dealing with all sorts of folks, etc.
The simple fact that you are even considering donating such a nice instrument says a great deal about you. If that is a viable possibility, I'm sure your local theatre would be overwhelmed by such generosity. All too often churches, theatres, schools, etc., are "gifted" (however well intentioned) with old worn out instruments that are pretty much useless. Your donation would be a nice tidy little tax write off for you, so you would both benefit.
Best of luck to you!

Piano techs will also do appraisals. They can write them up for you for tax, insurance, donation, pre-sale, etc. I would think having the written evaluation of condition on hand, and having the instrument in tune, would help you make a sale on favorable terms (though the buyer may want their own inspection as well).
The tech may also know of potential buyers, or know what dealers might be best if you decide to go that way.

Thank you each for your replies. They were helpful. I'll ask our technician who tunes the piano if he can give a written estimate and go from there. Bill
