I stopped by BestBuy today and I played a new Casio Privia 120
that they had on display. The look and the sound of the piano
(although limited by the tiny speakers) was decent. But I was extremely disappointed by the keys weight and action.
They looked like toys. The keys had a tendency to "spring back" in an unnatural way, and the whole feeling was that I was playing a cheap keyboard. Now, I wouldn't have anything to criticize if the Privia 120's price were around $ 300.00.
But this digital piano was on sale at BestBuy for $ 690.00 !!!
I have played several other pianos in the same price range, i.e. the Korg SP 250 and the Yamaha P85, not to mention the Casio SP200 console piano which is on sale at Guitar Center for $ 690.00 and, even if the weight and action differ between these models, they all gave me the feeling of a "serious" instrument quite close to the action of an acoustic piano. My question is:how can Casio price an instrument with such a poor keys action so high ?

Wow that is high! Being that the px130 is $499 so best buy sucks for pianos! You can probably get a px110 or 120 for $200-300

it might be the case when a store has no idea if next generation PX130 is already out, so that they just keep the price as it was since 2008 and never bother to change. BestBuy mostly wouldn't change the initial price on some not so popular items, except computers or TV sort of hot items. besides, it never is a good idea to buy a DP from BestBuy.

Every other place sells the 120 for $499 and Sam Ash just sent me a $100 off coupon so the real price is $399.

Don't blame Casio, blame Best Buy. But I suspect an error. Likely the price got swapped with the more expensive model Casio

About the keys being light, Not everyone wants a simulation of an acoustic piano. Many people prefer lighter keys. Heck, some even like the "synth action" without the weights. Certainly if you want to play stings or Hammon organ sounds you'd prefer not to have the weights. These light keys might be a compromise

BTW, I just tried out on of those Kawai "wooden key" DPs. It's the best I've tried but $1K over my budget.

Doesn't Bestbuy have the YPG635? It's a "decent" DP. Lol..

I think the PX120 sold at Best Buy includes the stand and pedal. If it is marked at $690, that is too high. That DP used to sell for $599.99 with the stand and pedal.
