#1300739 - 11/06/09 07:19 PM M&H Composite Action - harder for technicians?

Hi All,

I have just played a M&H BB - quite possibly the first one in Australia! It is a wonderful instrument.

I am wondering though, is the WNG Composite action more difficult for techs who are not familiar with them to work with? The reason I ask is that if I buy one of these amazing instruments, will I be able to find a tech that can appropriately regulate my piano, given that all the techs in my neck of the woods are unlikely to have had any/much exposure to the WNG Composite action (as M&H have only recently started selling in Australia).

Cheers

Marcus

Marcus,

Any competent technician can service them. They might need a little advice from the manufacturer on a few details, but the action is serviced and regulated pretty much like any other piano action.

What he said.

No real downside.

We are using these parts in rebuilding. They are incredibly consistent! There are no downsides to a competent technician.

Haven't had any issues yet. Hanging hammers is a bit different, not harder, just different. The factory offers tech assistance to those in need.

I received the sample kit a few months back.
They have some great parts and ideas.
I love 3hearts the plate mounting bolts.
I also like the key pins, bridge pins, let off buttons, capstans, flanges and repetitions.
Still not sure about the shanks or back checks.

Many thanks everyone for your feedback. It is very reassuring to hear. The only question I will I buy a M&H piano? I was very impressed by it, and it will certainly be on the short list.

Rod, our techs 3hearts the shanks and backchecks as much as the rest of the parts. We've had nothing but great responses to these actions by clients.

Good to hear.
Perhaps I'll give them a try in the future.

For the rebuilers that use the WNG parts, keep a look out for the new replacement back action kit. I recently installed one and was very impressed. For all of the things that one could want in a back action like spoons, capstans, screw adjustable lift lever return springs, easy to move and remove lift lever lead - it is built into this kit.
