Which complete set of CDs or selected CDs of Mozart's piano concertos would you recommend?

I have fourteen of them recorded by Perahia; some of those recordings go back to the 1970s and still stand up well against many newer ones. I also have selected recordings by Ashkenazy, Gulda, and Goode. From what I have read, many of the Perahia performances have not been surpassed on disc and I have never felt the need to search out other interpretations.

Regards,

I also have have the Perahia recordings; there's a nice boxed set of all 27 concertos. I've been listening to them since the early 90's: they are how I came to understand and internalize this music. I'm sure there are many other wonderful recordings out there, but these are the ones I can recommend without reservation.

It's not a CD but there's a complete recording of K.595 by Florencia Raitzin on her website.

Alfred Brendel's complete cycle with Marriner (part of the Philips Complete Mozart Edition) is still my favorite overall. His later recordings of selected concerti with Mackerras (also on Philips/Decca/Universal) are also excellent.

Robert Levin has recorded many of the concerti with Hogwood (Philips/Decca/Universal) -- wonderfully, in my opinion. Malcolm Bilson's complete cycle with Gardiner (DG/Universal) is also good, but I find the orchestra more interesting than the soloist. Andreas Staier's recordings of the 9th, 17th, 18th and 19th concerti with Concerto Koln (Teldec/Erato/Warner) are infectuous.

I find both of Barenboim's complete cycles rather dull overall, but his second recording of the 19th Concerto with the Berlin Philharmonic (Teldec/Erato/Warner, not to be confused with his earlier cycle with the English Chamber Orchestra on EMI) is ridiculously lively, and the only one I know of that takes the cut time indication of the first movement seriously.

Moravec's recording of the 24th and 25th concerti with Marriner is my favorite for those particular works. Goode's recording of the 27th Concerto with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra is my favorite of the work, especially since he plays the last movement in a very lively and life-affirming manner rather than pretentiously injecting it with would-be profundity (as many pianists do) simply because it is the finale of Mozart's last piano concerto.

I find Uchida's cycle (Philips/Decca/Universal) too soft grained overall (the last time I checked she was embarking on a second cycle), though her recordings of the 22nd and 23rd concerti are wonderful.

Thanks everyone. I'll get the latest (Sony digitized) Perahia set. Very much liked his interpretation from I found on Youtube.

Also found an old, forgotten CD of Mozart piano sonatas by Eschenbach. Very nice.

I actually prefer the sonatas, with the solo piano.
