I have been an electronic tech in the musical instrument field for over 30 years (now in computers instead). The electronics from the different brands are different both electroncally and physically. So it is highly unlikely that any modules would be found from a different company that would be usable.

All suggesstions welcome Does the GEM RP Basic piano have a working "MIDI Out" port on the back? If so then yes you can bypass the in-built tone generation and perform that function either in a computer or stand alone MIDI tone generator.

the GEM RP Basic does have a "MIDI OUT" port in front. bought a usb to midi cable.but wen i connect it all the lights dont blink.and furthermore watevr software i use..im assuming wen u connect the cable if u press a key on the piano the same key is supposed to get lit up on the virtual keyboard but that doesnt happen.but a light on the cable does blink wen i press a key on the virtual keyboard on my comp. if it is possible could u plz explain to me how to "bypass the in-built tone generation and perform that function either in a computer or stand alone MIDI tone generator."

I don't know what kind of computer you have or the OS or what MIDi software you are running. So I can't help much. But I doubt the virtual keyboard is designed so it mirrors key presses on the real keyboard. More likely they are both treated as separate input devices. Can you get any sound at all out of the computer? Can you play MP3 files? Will the MIDI software play standard MIDi files? Can you play the virtual keyboard?

i have an ACER Aspire one computer..dual boot..windows xp and linux ubuntu 9.10.but so far i installed the midi sw on the windows partition. i have used many different midi sequencer sw like virtual piano, win piano, simple piano...not sure whether its a proper sw tho..it detects the usb cable.and also sets its as the default input device and output device.
do u know how the virtual keyboard is designed??? coz its supposed to support recording from the piano and give a sound output..as i was talkin abt earlier..
otherwise the computer works fine.i get full sound.can play mp3 n all other audio files.all the sw i used play midi files.and i can play the virtual piano also.

Have you tried swapping the MIDI in and MIDI out cables on the Piano? It is easy to get them reversed.
