I been trying to do some research and been reading some good reviews about the casio PX800. How is it compared to other digital pianos in that price range $899.

The Casio PX800 is a solid choice for a digital piano. It compares favorably to the Yamaha console pianos. The PX800 will soon be discontinued so it may be hard to find. Guitar Center had them on clearance back in August for $699. If you could pick one up for this price, I would go for it. The PX830 will replace it some time early next year.

The keys on the PX-800 seemed cheap to me and "wobbly", compared with say a Kawai CL-35 or CN-22. Perhaps they've improved them on the PX-830. However, I liked the fold away lid on the PX-800, I'm not so sure about the flat lid on the PX-830, I've only seen illustrations so far, I've yet to see one in the flesh.

There was nothing that I could find in the $800-$1200 range that I liked better. With my eyes closed, I had my daughter walk me through the DP section of our local music store and I played DPs in my price range without looking at them so I could judge on sound quality alone. You don't know how shocked I was when I realized that the DP I liked the most was a Casio. Frankly, it was VERY VERY hard for me to accept the fact I would ever actually like something from Casio (in my mind Casio a half step above Fisher-Price smile ). I tried hard to make myself buy Yamaha instead. But if I turned my "brand bias" off, the PX800 simply sounded so much better (for my taste)than any Yamaha within my budget(and had more features). The reviews that I have read also seemed to support my conclusion.

It's important to keep an open mind when comparing one piano against another. A lot of people still associate Casio as cheap and low quality, but the Privia line of pianos are definately not toys. You may or may not like them, but considering what you get for what you pay, they're hard to beat.
