Hello Everyone, I'm thinking a few years down the road. Do I buy a new 7 ft 6 Yamaha C7 for 45 thousand or a 9ft used Yamaha for 50 to 60 thousand?

The bigger, the louder, the better bass, and the better it'll sound smile
If you have space and money, I'd go for the 9ft.

Anyone that juys a 6 cylinder truck is always wishing they had bought the V8. Go for the 9 footer.

Greg

9ft if you've got the money and room. You won't regret it if that's what you really want. I'd post this in the Piano Forum too. smile

It all depends. Both are great pianos. I've played at least one concert on a nearly brand new C7 from Yamaha's Concert Reserve and loved it. I also got to play for a half hour or so on a cIII-s, the one that Olga Kern played in Maryland, in the same room as where I played the C7. It had a much bigger, more robust sound; was phenomenally responsive, for me, a much better piano.

So where are the dependencies? Your taste, how big a room you've got. The cIII-s is built to project into a large hall; I don't know how it would sound in a smallish room, but I suspect, it would be overwhelming. The C7, by contrast, would work well in a home "salon" setting.

Either way, you'll have a great piano. Good luck.

I do not know why you posted this here. This area is for player pianos and such.

The CFIIIS is a much better piano, but make sure that the S is in front of the serial number. The CFIII is far inferior, and other older Yamaha concert grands are ever worse. Condition is important, as well. Concert pianos may see hard use, and can deteriorate quickly.

C7s vary quite a bit. Good voicing is important.
