if you put the top of your head on the fallboard as firmly as possible and play..

omgosh!

the complexity of tone is greatly enhanced. (boosted maybe)

That’s called “extra sensory perception”! The sound waves travel into you head as well as into your ears!

You make me smile, Apple!! I hope you are doing well!

Would you want to do that during your recital, however?

Imagine what you would experience if you got underneath and strapped your body to the sound board! All sorts of sensations I expect. (How did Jerry Lee put that again?)

Only problem would be the need for very long arms...

One of the best places to hear a piano is to lie down underneath it.

Similarly, if you turn the volume all the way down on your record player, and grip a drumstick* between your teeth (a pencil also works), and let the far end of the drumstick rest gently on the headshell (the bit where the needle attaches to the tonearm) you can hear the music almost as clearly as if it were amplified.

How I discovered this, I'm not sure. I'm sane most of the time, really...

*percussion implement, not chicken, ideally. Even though it makes more sense to put the latter in your mouth, it'd be less good for this exercise.

Better yet, lie underneath and let the chicken play the piano.

Not at all, and I'm very sorry if you got that impression.

Do you still have to put the chicken in your mouth?

The main thing is to get a chicken with some skill. A lot of them only know the "hunt and peck" style of playing...

And their favorite composer is Johann Sebastain Bawk.
