Do you know if Steinway sells touch-up paint for their plates? If not, do you know a source for touch-up paint? Thanks.

Thanks pianobroker. Sorry to be a brain picker, but at least you don't have to worry about me going into competition with you guys! Piano tuners have my admiration.

I called Steinway NY and asked if they sold gold touch up paint. They advised they do, but only to authorized dealers or technicians (of which I am neither). The dealer where I bought my 1903 O said she would order it for me and have it shipped to my house. Gratis. Nice of her.

It's not likely to match the original paint. Probably won't even be close. Time, oxidation, dirt and changing materials will add up to a possible "ARGHHHHH! what have I done!", reaction. Try it on a piece of paper first.
Edit. Just trying to reinforce what PBroker said, because he's right.

When I am patching tiny dings in a plate, either I cut a small hole in a piece of paper and spray through it, or just flow a drop of paint from an artist's brush. The important thing is to get it wet, and then not touch it until it dries. Metallic paint is very forgiving when you touch up that way.
I suspect Steinway gets theirs from Behlen.
