Hey Folks,

Just fishing for some of your opinions on this one. I'm looking at possible getting a used P250 that is being advertised locally for $1k (in stand, bench etc) or a new CP33 (I have Studio Monitors) or P155.

I know the 155 is the newest and greatest from Yamaha but I kinda dig the "tough" and tone of the CP33. Of course with Black Friday next week I'm hoping that either Sam Ash/Guitar C will have their annual 15-20% off..

On paper it looks like the P250 has the same keyboard as the CP33 and also has 3layer sampling that the CP33 has. Of course the P155 has the 4 layer but I doubt this is going to be a huge difference..

Maybe there are some P250/CP33 present or past users who may have done something else. Or maybe there is someone on here from SoCal that's looking to offload either of the mentioned above, hey don't ask don't know thumb

"Cheers"
- SC

I thought the CP33 and P155 where the about same in terms of tone. (The CP33 has some better midi features and controls that make more parameters easier to adjust)

Am I wrong? I've not had time to listen carefully with headphone.

Most of those used DPs I see are very old and grossly over priced but the P250 seems new enough to still have all the good specs. But no warranty and only $200 less then the CP33. The Yamaha 3 year warranty is worth paying something for.

I am curious about the CP33 v. P155. because they sell for the exact same price.

That's not a great price for a P250. My teacher has one that I've played, it's very nice. But the price of a CP33 is so close to $1000 that it doesn't seem to make sense to buy something that was made in 2002 for that price. If you could get the P250 down below $750 it might be a good buy. I haven't played a P155 but I had a P140. I've played a CP33 too. All the P series Yamahas you mention have the same GH keyboard, the difference is in the sounds and effects, so it depends what you're looking for. What I did was buy a used P90 for $350, I've been really happy with it. I'm guessing I could still sell it for more than I paid if I wanted to unload it. Good luck on your quest.

Thanks Mark,

I really love the idea of the P250 but as you said, it's 2002 and I'd be far happier if I could get it for approx $800sh. I was going to go and see it Saturday but I think I'll pass.

A CP33 / P155 for approx the same cost (with BF sales) with 3yrs warranty will probably be a much wiser choice. Or as you said, find a nice P-Series (P90/120) for under $500 and save up for something else down the road..
