I got these recordings a long while ago from a pedal steel guitar forum. I forget the fellow's name, but he is an immensely talented steel player who set Chopin's Op. 10 no. 3 and Liszt's Liebesträume for E9 tuning* pedal steel. They are truncated somewhat...obviously the stormy B section of the Chopin does not fit well on the steel guitar...but the concept works rather nicely. The Chopin has a simple rhythm guitar backing the melody, but the Liszt is done entirely on one instrument.

These probably won't be to everyone's tastes, but even if it sounds like a nutcase concept to you, try to listen with an open mind because these are beautiful recordings. Enjoy.

*Means that the instrument is tuned to an open E9 chord. Most PSG's have 10 strings, and many more have two necks, often with the outer neck tuned E9 and the inner tuned to a C6 chord. For those who want to know more about this complex and difficult to master instrument, I refer you to Wikipedia.

You know, I'm not entirely convinced the Chopin has a rhythm guitar now that I listen to these closely again. The player is doing the bass line on the lower strings with his thumbpick. That's what I get for writing before I listen again...
