Hey, Not sure if this is a good place for this and I'm sure this has been brought up before but there are so many threads, hard to find too much about it :p . Are there any irc/chat rooms for this forum? smile Looks like a java chat room was attempted awhile ago but seems inactive now I guess. It be great to have an IRC server for pianoworld then make different channels according to the forum threads. Using an IRC server would definitely be better than any java chat room if we have one. It could be a lot of fun since there are so many more people on the forum now than probably the last time a chat room was attempted. As long as a link is maybe put up on that top bar by forum list and the My stuff list etc, people could see it. Or maybe there already is one and I just can't find it? smile I love using IRC and it's a great way to get to know people better. Of course, it's not for everybody and maybe it's not for this forum, but just wondering if there's anything like that here :P

I don't think pianoworld has any formal channel on any irc network. Personally, I'm on several channels on freenode and one on efnet but that's it for the moment. Way back in the day there were a few I frequented on Undernet as well. Of course, I don't think may people reading this will know what any of those things are. smile

I go by a slightly different irc nickname than the one used on the forums here so that might confuse some folks too...

There certainly isn't much of anything piano related in my current list of irc channels though. Just a bit of #nethack related stuff and a few other ones that contain a collection of online friends.

The hardest part about any kind of piano related chatroom would be remaining on topic, of course.

IRC is definitely a lot of fun. I can stay on it for hours:) Anythonyb, if there were one, you don't always have to stay on topic, just if people have questions or want to talk about piano related stuff there will be people there who know about it:)

I'm exclusively on Undernet and have been for years smile. I communicate with my husband via IRC while he's at work (he's the boss, so it's OK). It's easy enough to start a channel, but to get one registered you'd have to have a certain number of people there pretty much all the time for a while.

I'm pretty sure you just have to have the founder of the channel idle there to keep the channel active. But maybe to start an irc server you need to have a certain number of people there and it is pretty easy enough to set up channels, but making a server requires some coding which I don't know anything about lol.

There. Since we've already got one user on Undernet I'll connect to one of that chat network's servers and fire up a #pianoworld channel. I can't say how long I'll stick around there if nobody else shows up though. wink

if people dont have an irc client available, you can also go to undernet.org and click on the webchat link then just put in a nickname and connect. After you're connected type /join #pianoworld
cheers!

Well, they do have a bit of a web based chat client...but I have not used it. Most people don't have actualy IRC client programs unless they have previously used IRC before.

There is a button on the webpage that says "Webchat"

You can type in a nickname (don't really need a real name).

Place #pianoworld in the Favorite channel box (The # is important)
Then, in the channel drop down box, pick "Another Canal" (Supposed to say "Channel" I think)

Server is EU for Europe and US for the US. If not in either, pick whatever is closest.

Then you can at least see if anyone is around and talking.

It's not the best way to connect to IRC but at least you can get an idea of what it is.

maybe we could try connecting at the same time?
maybe 9pm EST (which would be 8pm CST, 7pm MST, 6pm PST)?
I think that's how the timezones go, right?
Or is it other way around...?

So maybe everybody try Monday 11/22, 9pm EST?
