Hi. I have my first recital coming up Sunday, along with my 10 year old daughter. We've both had lessons for 3 months. She's playing Deck the Halls and I'm playing Linus and Lucy. I used Band in a Box to make a jazz combo backing track only meant to practice to but my teacher wants me to hook it up to the sound system and play the grand with it. Here is what I will play:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cc43GWXlOc

Anyway, I've ordered several different copies of the sheet music and they all have only the middle part that you hear me playing.

Too late for the recital but I want to also learn the first middle part that's in the TV show and that you see this guy playing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjU6z4ffu_4

Is there any sheet music for that or does everyone just play it by ear?

Thanks!

Have tried either of these books?

WOW!! Great playing for only 3 months!!
Linus and Lucy is by no means a beginner song.

Thanks. I just ordered those. I purchased 3 different download versions and all were different but didn't have that part. I guess even if those two books don't have it I like Vince Guaraldi's music anyway.

Thanks for the compliment. I should say 2.5 months of formal lessons currently plus a bit of learning / faking on my own. I did make some mistakes in that video performance. I did this the night I created the backing track and I had my piano lesson the next day and I wanted my teacher to hear the backing track that I was going to practice to instead of solo or with a metronome. Instead she's like "plug it into the sound system and play along at the recital!"

So I'm practicing like mad because of the timing pressure it puts on my performance! I'm probably going to sit down at the grand on the stage and just pass out! I've never performed musically on anything in public, was never in band, and 7th grade choir is my sum total experience shocked I wanted to take piano lessons as a kid because of this one song I loved so much in grade school but my alcoholic stepfather wouldn't let me because he said it would turn me gay shocked (He would really just rather spend his money on beer smirk )

Hi, Alpha... you are doing great with that piece! I too like that instrumental and I've been learning it too. I've got the first two parts down pretty good and I just add-lib and do the last part by ear.

I have seen the YT recording by Vince. This is a version that I like and have been working on.

Keep up the great work!!

I think it's the Vince Guaraldi Collection (and maybe not the Charlie Brown Christmas)
that has the middle part. ---I've been working on this too...like the Digitalassassin version on youtube.

Great work Alpha!! I have to admit I'm a bit envious that you sound sooo great after only this amount of time. I actually tried to learn this piece and after 3 months I finally gave up out of pure frustration!

Best of luck with your performance and let us know how it goes. I'm sure you'll do awesome!

Well, my daughter and I had our first recital today. It was the first time either of us played an instrument in public. Her at 10 years old, me at 37 years.

She pulled it off better than me. I forgot to breathe and almost passed out in the middle of the jazzy part and linus and lucy and lost control of my left hand which started shaking almost violently and just lifted up and played it with my right hand for a few measures. I took some deep breaths and recovered the last part of the song. I uploaded our video, with the middle audio part of my performance lifted from my rehearsal 5 days ago. Kind of upsetting when something you can play blindfolded falls apart on stage!

Congrats on making thru the recital!!

Not sure why you edited the middle section though. IMHO you should keep it in it's original form as sort of a snapshot.
