Hi,
My first post, but I have been lurking on this site for a while now since I decided to by a DP and get back into playing. I took lessons from about age 6 until high school and then quit. (I was also a singer and played the violin. I was better on the violin than piano, but enjoyed plunking around on the piano more.)
Anyway, I have limited space and can only fit a very skinny DP in my entry hall. What do you think about this Roland? I went to hear it at the local Boston Steinway / Roland dealer and like it very much. They are practically giving away the satin black and medium cherry, but the polished ebony comes with the ivory-feel keys.
They want about $2,200 for the SB and MC, but I received an e-mail saying that they would sell me the PE for $3,150! I then would have to pay $50 delivery and sales tax. At Kraft Music on-line the bundle with headphones, USB, is $2,900.
I am considering sending them an e-mail and offering $2,995 delivered or I go to Kraft Music. But, first I wanted to get your wise opinions on this DP.
Many thanks in advance!
Suzette

Hi Suzette,
I am also considering purchasing the DP-990, and from all manner of enquiries have come to the conclusion that the extra dosh (about 700 green) is for the polished case and the ivorite keys., though I'd love to hear from someone more knowledgeable to the contrary... Anyhow the sounds are very good, in my opinion, and the tiny on board speaker system does an outstanding job, considering said tininess.
I imagine your local dealer would wish to work with you on price, especially as they are really hurting because of the internet.
Good luck,
Jonathan

Thank you James and Jonathan! You have inspired me to send my e-mail and make the offer. I did feel guilty that the woman spent a lot of time showing me the features of the DP and I told her as much that it didn't seem fair and that Roland should pay them to have the samples in town for viewing. But, I did think that tacking on $1,000 to the price plus delivery and sales tax was a little bit ridiculous. But, this is Boston (sigh).
