I'm about to buy a px-830 and wanted to know wether the usb port will allow me to use the keyboard through Garageband/Logic studio/Cubase etc. Basically, can i use the piano as a midi controller. The px-830 has the same usb port as the px-130/330/730 also, so if anyone has one of those and uses it through a computer i'd be glad to know.
(the confusion arose due to casio's website saying that you can connect to a computer via usb and upload more songs to the keyboard, but didn't say wether it can be used as a midi controller)
Many thanks

Your best bet is to download and read the user manual. But The Casio web page I have bookmarked says this when you click "specifications": MIDI 16-channel multi-timbral (receive) Which is very surprising. I'd have guessed that any DP made today would have full MIDI features. But it seems this one does not.

Thanks for the input, im reading the manual for midi control on the px series but its REALLY confusing for someone who was expecting plug and play functionality! i would love to hear from someone who actually has a new Privia PX and has tried this.
Many thanks

Err, are you talking about just using it to play and record other software sounds on your PC. i.e. as a midi controller for something like Ivory software piano or VST? If so then yes, because I use my PX330 with Fruity Loops & Ivory through just the USB alone. There is also no latency at all for me using the ASIO drivers.
I'm using Windows 7 64 Bit, so it's even compatible with that.

Using a USB as an output for midi control, just for VST and software piano and such, there should be no difference. Don't see why there would be; even the PX130 can do this, but maybe someone else can verify.

Thanks for the info Passion, i agree that if it works on your 330 it'll work on my 830 (due to usb output being similar), i was just looking for someone like you to confirm they were using they're new Privia PX as a controller for VST/Software pianos.
Many thanks, Case Closed!
