Hey All,

I'm new to keyboard, but I'm getting one for christmas and can't wait.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone on this forum plays Genesis?

Tony Banks by far is my favorite keyboard player and hope someday to play like him.

If you don't know much about genesis, check out That' All. It's what I hope to someday play.
Did I metion I play bass too, so that will probably help my playing.

Peece.

Not completely familiar with them, but I know they used a CP70 back in the day. And since I've gotten the same piano, I'd be interested in learning That's All, or at least the main riff. smile

Anyway, good luck with your playing.

I like the Peter Gabriel era Genesis, not to keen on the popped up Phill Collins stuff. The other issue is that I think I preferred Tony Banks when he played a real Hammond L122, mellotron and the Arp Pro-soloist rather than the later post-gabriel synthie pop stuff with samples of these instruments.

In fact it was re-discovering the early Genesis that got me back to piano 3-4 years ago. I found that you can find on the WWWW lots of midi files and read them as scores, whilst there's a lot of duff ones some are pretty good. I love the piano on Firth of Fifth, and the mellotron/organ on Watcher of the skies. I had to have those sounds - so from ebay I bought an EMU Vintage Keys Rack unit together with an M-Audio Axiom 61 so I could do the Banks multi-keyboard thingie on top of the piano. I hadn't played the piano in years and realised that I needed to practice to improve my chops, but I've been enjoying the piano so much I haven't gone back to the Prog rock stuff in yonks.

If you like Tony Banks Checkout Kerry Minnear of Gentle Giant and look-up "Three Friends Minnear" on Youtube for very recent live recordings.
