Please just give your answers without spoiling it for someone else by saying something like “I know the answer is Messiaen because I read it on page 76…” Sometimes I have slightly rewritten the quotes for simplicity. If there is more than one blank in a question, the blanks have the same answer.

1. “Debussy was impregnated, almost inhabited by ________’s pianism. His own playing was of all he felt were the procedures of that master to us all”.

2. Artur Rubinstein said “It would take me 500 years to get that kind mechanism” about __________.

3. ________ played a two piano fantasy on themes from Il Trovatore with Thalberg in NYC. He toured the US with his two Chickerings.

4. Gunar Johansen said “_________ outshone all others.” ________thought Chopin had become overpopularized, while Liszt had been ignored.

5. _________ was a church organist at nine. Not one of Chopin’s students was allowed to touch his Etudes until he had a thorough grounding in __________’s etudes.

6. ___________was born on Christmas day. His Mother died when he was very young and he was raised by three female relatives who spoiled him and contributed to his egomania.

More questions later, maybe.

Before I say anything, let me make sure I'm not gonna screw it up. smile

Looks like you really want us to give ANSWERS. But I don't get what you DON'T want us to say; I don't see how that fr'instance you gave "spoils it" any worse than giving actual answers!!! So, I don't really get what we're not supposed to do....

OK, you're giving answers, so I will too. smile
I was thinking Godowsky but for the NEXT question (#3) but I figured he lived much later than Thalberg (and I'm also surprised Thalberg ever came to NY, sorry I missed that concert). ha

All of these are guesses; I don't know any for sure. And if this were in a school, I would not pass the course. smile

1. Chopin
2. Horowitz
3. Gottschalk? I think that's probably wrong but I have no other idea.
4. Do we assume that both blanks are filled with the same name?
Anyway, no idea.
5. Cramer?
6. Liszt?

Artur Rubinstein said “It would take me 500 years to get that kind mechanism”
Should be Martha Argerich -and there is a good case to be made there- but Rubinstein merely said 'Why does she play so fast?'

It's actually correct; I expect it was the hottest ticket in town.

I don't mean I think you're wrong, just that I'm 'struck.'

How did you guess Busoni on that? I know a bit about him and never would have had a clue.

2- Godowsky

4- Ferrucio Busoni

I agree with the rest.
Scriabin was born on Orthodox Christmas day, thus not Dec 25th..
