Yea, Pineapple rag is sooooo awesome to hear. I cant wait untill I can play it, it will definitely be my show off piece too once its done . It's a GREAT "show-off" piece, in many ways, including the great way that the feeling and excitement build. That next-to-last section (in E-flat) is a wonderful pull-back before the final burst. I view the piece as being almost Liszt-like in its excitement and exhilaration.

anybody here can play the "stoptime rag" completely ? I've read through it completely many times but I'm not sure we should call that "playing" it completely. I mean, I got the notes and tempo and stuff......

.....and I know that Peacherine has been one of my favorites too but to tell the truth I have to go back to see which one that is.... (I THINK I know which one.....we'll see......) [goes to check] .....not the one I thought, but indeed it's one of my favorites. All the themes are GEMS. I think especially the 2nd theme is very creative and wonderful in its simplicity. Just as the next theme is creative and wonderful in its complexity.

I still havnt heard a full performance of Stoptime either, except for a 2 man performance on youtube with each person playing each line. It will be a while before I get around to it, its the 5th piece I want to learn in order of personal preferance. I think I'll have a read through the score now because I feel like it .

My stupid wrist was fine for a long time, so a few days ago I stated using my PC mouse again with a full day of video gaming and it got compressed again . Its fine when playing the Piano, just using the PC ruins it still.

Good rhythm! And don't worry at all about the 'mistakes'.....they're sort of part of the piece. BTW....I think you're mis-reading one of the notes.....In the 2nd measure (and all the repetitions of that phrase), the A-flat from the 1st measure 'becomes' a G, but you're still playing A-flat. Try it with the G.....it might sound funny at first because you're used to it the other way, but I bet very soon you'll like it better with the G!

hello Mark & friends, The film Scott Joplin featured Art Carney as John Stark the music publisher in Sedalia Mo He did not play the music in the film it was all played as fear as I know by Dick Hyman. I do study a lot in classic ragtime and stride piano and yesterday returned back here to Australia after playing at the West Coast Ragtime Festival (Sacramento). Had A great time catching up with so many talented (EXTREMELY talented) musicians. well That's my highlight for the moment. All the best to you all. John Gill (pianoman)

Im playing it right I believe, I dont see an A flat printed anywhere on my score in the first two sections. It sounds the same to me as everyone elses.

Maple Leaf Rag is one of the most difficult joplin rags. In general, people shouldn't start with this one. --------
Maybe people on youtube, could film their face ? BTW, if the mistakes can be cut with video .... it would be more interesting !

I learnt the Entertainer first for Grade 7, but it had a dumbed down left hand.
I cant film my face because then the camera wouldnt record the sound well enough, Im using a phone camera.
If I had a better camera I could put it furthur away.

GREAT job Bhav on Maple Leaf Rag! I love Joblin and Maple Leaf Rag is actually at the top of my list to learn. So much fun! I have the sheet music but haven't had a chance to even look at it! Maybe after the holidays AK

I agree, fantastic job at tackling Maple Leaf Rag. I'm also a fan of Joplin, and here's my YouTube performance. It's not perfect I know, but I just love playing it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDLdllR2lW8

That was terrific, Fur Elise! Wish I could play it half as well and all the way through like that! Great playing, everyone!

Wow...I won't "pat myself on the back"... :), but... I never took any piano grades, and when I was a kid, left off at around the 3rd book, but, I can play the full 1902 version after less than a year as a grown-up beginner. PS-I am posting a "do-over" video on YouTube at the end of this month. I learned it back in August but had a "dumbed down" 2nd strain. However, after months of playing it, it's pretty "ripe" now, and now I'm just perfecting my dynamics.
