After many hours spent testing and ogling and reality checks...the new piano came home yesterday. Chose a Kawai K-2. The wife had to threaten me to get me to stop playing last night (I am not very good.) Could not be happier with the choice (well at least in my income bracket)

Nice piano!
The direct sunlight coming in might not be too good for tuning stability, though.

Congratulations! You made a good choice. I know you'll enjoy it. And if you wife continues to complain, I see the sofa is located conveniently next to the piano!

Very nice piano! Not only sunlight but weather conditions may affect the piano in front of a window. Of course, you may live in an area where weather does not change much. No matter, Enjoy your new instrument.

I am a bit confused about the sunlight...we have not opened those blinds in 2 years. It doesn't get direct sunlight except for the smallest hint throught the slats.
I think that even the amount of sun coming through the blinds could be harmful to the case and insides. Isn't it warmer right by the blinds even though not much sun comes through? I'd also assume any humidity changes in the room due to outside weather would be strongest right next to a window. Not claiming to be an expert, but I personally wouldn't take a chance.

From one K-2 owner to another, congratulations! I think you'll be very happy with your new piano. It's a lot of bang for the buck. Mine is very stable tuning-wise. My technician likes tuning it.
The best part of my day is playing my K-2. Once in awhile, I play a passage nicely, and the sweetness of the tone has startled me. It has a decent bass for a small piano, IMHO.
I had lots of good choices when purchasing my piano, and have no regrets picking the Kawai. It was the best choice for my budget.

We have thermo-pane double-glazed windows with blinds similar to yours, and my computer happens to be right by one of them on this chilly December morning. You know what--- it's colder by the window. Suggested location for upright pianos is on an interior wall, and the reason is so conditions can be more stable. That will help your piano stay in tune better and last better.
Not a great player on your first day? It's ok--- you know what they say, "Practice is the great magician, which makes impossible things not only possible, but easy." Carl Czerny, Beethoven's student. I think of it often.
Congratulations on your new piano! Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Congratulations!
To keep your piano in the best condition possible, it should be in a stable environment as far as temperature and humidity goes. After all, that's really the only difference between keeping something inside vs. in the garage. They're both indoors, sheltered from rain; you keep things in the house to keep them in a comfortable temperature range.
Would you set up a baby's crib in this location? Probably not. The direct sunlight will increase the air temperature right there (even though little of it comes through the blinds), and there are likely to be drafts around the window. An upright piano's soundboard is on its back, and this one now has half exposed to the window, and half not.
These are reasons why it's recommended that pianos not be placed against an outside wall. Even without a window, outside walls are more likely to have temperature changes, especially in a climate like NC. Also, they are likely to have floor vents to blow warm air across the window to prevent condensation in winter. I certainly hope your new piano doesn't have a vent either above it or worse, underneath it!
Just last month I had to tell a new customer that her ten-month-old grand had a soundboard crack because of the conditions where it was placed. I'd like to keep you from hearing that bad news!

Congratulations on getting your beautiful new Kawai piano. However, be kind to your piano and please move it from the window!
Best regards,
Robert.

--Cy-- If I have to set up a crib anywhere...my wife will have some 'splainin' to do. Will be moving it this evening away from that bank of windows onto the opposing wall. Shouldn't be any problems there. As for the vents...they are above, but we do have 10 foot ceiling on the downstairs and none of them are near the piano. Thanks all for the advice on keeping the new piano...new.

The sunlight on that window will heat up those blinds, and that heat will affect the piano, the soundboard and bridges will swell ever so slightly under those conditions, and contract as the heat of the sun goes away. This really play havoc with your tuning. I'd move the piano to a different location, or at the least, put up some curtains with heavy backing to block the heat from the window... of course, those heavy curtains will dampen the sound from the piano -- but depending ont he accoustics, that may or may not work to your advantage.
